GH1 GH1 now $499 pd

Hackable GH1 bodies have been passed in on Ebay over the last few days, they can't get $450 for them. Why would you when GH2 is $750 new.
 
Saw a hacked Gh1 and hexanon 28 f2, adapter, 32gig card and extra battery, asking for $850 on Craigslist.

Was mighty tempted to loosen the wallet strings, I tell ya.

This is very tempting. This week I stared doing some research into buying my first pro digital still camera that can also act as a second video camera to my HMC40. Personally I have not been a huge fan of the way the Canon DSLR's handle video. Too soft and aliased for my liking. The GH1 and GH2 seem to handle video much better. Since B&H doesn't have either in stock anymore I assumed I could no longer buy a GH1 and would have to wait for a GH2. I am a bit on a budget right now since this camera is totally a personal toy at the moment.

Now I am a bit tempted to buy the GH1 since it is a bit more in my budget. I read about some sort of hack and I assume it would work with this camera. I also know the included lens may not be the best but it is ok for me right now as I am learning to deal with a new type of camera. I have used professional video cameras for 15 years but never really used professional still cameras before. Our work have a Red One camera which I have used a bit and it got me interested in experimenting in a DSLR type world.

Does anybody think buying the GH1 would be a good option?
 
On second thought I think I will wait and get a GH2. As nice as the GH1 is I now know these models are sure to have the unhackable firmware which really diminishes the usefulness of the camera for video. I still think the video on the GH1 is better in some ways to Canon DSLR video but I think I would be better off getting a camera that is updated. Plus I understand the low light is much better and the live HDMI output is pretty nice as well. My wife may kill me if I buy a GH2 instead of paying $500.00 for a GH1 but oh well.

1. What an INCREDIBLE time to be an Indie!!!!! So for 1K...you can get 2 hacked GH1s...or 2 non-hacked. Looking at what it's capable of...and this is what we have access to? WOWSER!
2. The 5d Mark II is selling (used) right now for EXACTLY the same price that it did 1 year ago...maybe even 2 years ago. Interesting thought as far as the investment in cameras go...hmmm..just interesting.
 
This is a very unusual combination. Panny never offered a GH1 body only EVER..... until now. So they obviously are stealing the 14-140 kit lenses from what they had packaged before, and trying to dump out some of these 14-42s. The 14-42 I have seen as cheap as $169, NIB, so that makes the body worth about $330. All in all, it's prettty stinkin' cheap if nothing else but for an extra cam.

I'll be a few week in NY, it's a pity the gh2 is only NTSC....
if I take one I 'll have only 24p with 50hz and forget 25p...
do you know?
 
GH1 could be good option.

We are going to complete openess of GH1/GF1/G2 hacking project soon.
So, much more hacks could appear.
