GH1 menu language change with hack?

Hi, I'm wanting to buy a couple of GH1's (used), but I'm in Japan and they only have Japanese menu's ... unlike my Canon KissX4 (bilingual ).

I want to know if I do the hack, can I change the menu to English?
Has anyone actually tried it on a foreign language purchase of the GH1?

I don't really want to buy these without knowing.

your only issue now is cross checking serials to make sure you CAN patch those japanese models.

OK, I've contacted one particular shop here (by phone only), and they gave me the serial number of FS9LD000XXXX

So I'm guessing the 3rd character being a 9 will mean it's 2009 production, but does that guarantee it's firmware is hackable?
He would not look the menu because these are new cameras and he's not prepared to open the box etc.. which is fair enough.
