GH1 Hackable cameras starting to go up in price?

Supply demand. Gh1 finished. It have a replacement with gh2 but nobody could boughted it because no stacks! Gh2 also increase in price. Sucks!

id imagine hackable GH1's will take a severe drop if the GH2 gets the hack and becomes a GH23!

When THAT happens is when I get on the boat and I, as ghosttv says.. will done boughted it! But I stills won't selldoned my GH13.

The price increase is temporary. Everyone buying the GH1 really wants a GH2 but just can find one. The GH2 is a better machine even against the GH13. Panasonic are being tools about the stock levels and pricing.

I currently own 7 x GH13 (4x gold, 1x red, 2x black) which are in my opinion the best dslr on the market... why? I hear you cry... $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ lot ands lots...I run a commercial production house and these babies have paid for themselves a hundred times over...
I do a lot of remote location corporate work for big companies in the oil, gas and minerals sector, since I stumbled onto these my whole way of filming and equipment kit has changed radically....
You know the funny thing, I have never been asked by a corporate client ' what format, what camera ,what bit rate or codec am I shooting in', they just want to see great vision and the GH13 has produced chrystal clear, razor sharp images every time...
I also use a photoshop post technique to actually soften and saturate the final images which produce results I cannot get on any video camera under $50K.....
I shoot at 50mbps native checked with no issues at all, some of the remote locations I travel to are up to 55 deg C with dust everywhere.. the GH1 never lets me down, no overheat issues ever....to give a quick example I hung a GH1 all over massive digging equipment with a fat gecko mount to get shots that just blew my clients away, I could never do this with a conventional camera... the 7-14mm lens is my best buddy for the trips..I do stuff now that 12 months ago I could only dream about...I will get a GH2 eventually but I don't see it producing the images of the GH13 for PAL 25fps....
The other advantage is weight, I can fly with a 2x pelican cases containing 3x GH13s, 14mm,20mm,7-14mm,14-140mm,70-200mm, Nikon 50mm, 70-200, plus accessories fat gecko etc..I have a tripod bag which I also fit a Kessler slider for the amazing slide reveal shots....
All this gear comes in at 38kg... 12 months ago I needed road cases and 78Kg to do same gig.....And yet I command the same rates as when I was lugging broadcast gear around.....
I am now looking at a Mikrokopter for arial work, the GH13 will be the perfect cam for this...

I think some guys on this forum need to stop nagging each other about the GH1 v GH2 and just get out and enjoy this technology..

Cheers all,

Truestory...

Cool post. I'd be interested in hearing about any sucess with the Mikrokopter.

am i wrong to assume that the encryption is very similar between the gh1 and gh2 firmwares?

Doesnt that mean if/when the gh2 gets hacked we will also be able to unlock the gh1 once again>?

amen to that Blackout! we love our GH13's  one day in the future my GH13 might get a big sister!

truestory 7 x GH13! now thats just greedy  i just picked up a GF1 as a B camera, kinda wish id gone for another GH13... still might

according to dxo; GH1 sensor is superior overall. Makes sense when you consider that the Gh2 is 50% bigger megapretzels; GH1 more efficient.

Your facts are a bit mixed up there. It's the GH2 which is more efficient, as it has smaller pixels (I know they're not called pixels on a sensor... but I can't remember the proper term), yet nearly manages to meet the GH1 in every respect.

Although that's a nice RAW comparison, the GH2's sensor performance most certainly is better than the GH1's, in video, so that test means absolutely nothing really. :)

I'm mixed up?. So DXO, a professional reviewing site gives the GH1 a better overall score then the GH2 in photography plus beats it DR and low light. Hmmm, ok lol. For most users the GH2 is not worth double the price.

Look at the bold text in the quote. ;) That's what I was referring to, matey. :)

GH13 is a great cam and can do a few things the GH2 can't, like anamorphic AVCHD. Plus, for fieldwork you can use aftermarket batteries and it comes with a power supply. And the detail is amazing. OTOH, GH2 prices will come down, and probably drive down GH13 a bit. If the price for GH13 is depressed further, ppl will keep them as a B cam, thus diminishing supply.

I feel kinda bad, hearing about the demand. My GH1 stays unhacked 99.99% of the time. I install the hack about once every 2 months...shoot some home video of my cats or some crap around town...and then re-install the factory firmware back on it before my paying job on the weekend. :D
