GH1 Flash shoe too tight?

I got myself a METZ58 flash for my Oly, and because it said Panasonic on the box i figured it will work on my GH1 as well. However, upon trying, the hot shoe of the flash wont even enter the Gh1's hotshoe (too tight a fit).

Then today I tried to put my shotgun mic holder on the GH1's hotshoe, and it wont fit either.

What gives with the GH1's shoe? Can this be loosened or something?

Did you make sure to unscrew the plastic circle part on the foot part of your accessories? Did your GH1's hot shoe get smooshed somehow?

Makes no sense - I've read that folks have put Metz48 flashes on the GH1, so no reason the Metz58 wont fit. The only accessory I have that fits is a cheapo China-made radio trigger. Not even my cheapo china-made sennheisser mic-holder clone fits.

I am thinking that yes, my GH1 may have been squashed at some point, but that hotshoe metal is quite stiff. It would take a major well placed bump to squash it.

i have one or two hot shoe adapters that are a tight fit too. the bottoms arent a perfect square and so they will not fit if you try to put the longest edge first. abit hard to spot with the naked eye. maybe go into a store and try sticking it on a demo gh1. is it because the base is too thick?

yep, base too thick. But it seems that the GH1 hot shoe is too tight because the same Metz flash fits fine on my Oly E20. I'll considering either shaving the foot of the flash (bad idea) or trying to expand the hot shoe a little (worse idea?).

But its a bummer - I just read about someone who just stuck his Metz 58 flash onto his Gh1 and is happily popping away. This sort of confirms its my cam at fault.

Final update - I'm now 100% sure that a well-placed blow dented the hotshoe of my Gh1 very, very slightly. No flash I own fits, even if these same flashes fit fine on my Oly, so I'm sure the hotshoe was dented somehow. No choice but to find some way to squeeze the hotshoe open by a very, very small amount.

Good grief, I tried four different flashes - none of them fit on my GH1 hotshoe. Tried to twist the hotshoe open, but the metal is so hard I might end up tearing it off the camera before I can even loosen it!

Does anyone know if I can still return it? Been shooting the Gh1 for almost six months now.

I don't think warranty will cover your dented hotshoe, but I would try to pry it open with a thick flat screw driver or maybe a pliers. It should not take much effort.
