GH1 - Boost in low light sensitivity with 14-42. How do I turn it off

Hi,

New to forum, but trawled through loads of posts before getting a GH13. I have been fiddling around and have a stable setting that works well.

One problem I do have is when shooting in low light. With the standard 14-42 lens at 14mm and f3.5 I get noticable coloured lines cycling through dark area and really bad noise. I thought this was a sensor problem, but now think differently. When I swap to an old Hanimex 28mm f2.8 I notice two very noticable differences to the 14-42 foottage
  • 2.8 on the Hanimex gives a much darker image than the the 3.5 on the 14-42
  • Zero (or a close to it as makes no difference) noise, or coloured lines on dark areas or surfaces
What I notice on the 14-42 lens is that when i compose the shot it is quite dark in the viewfinder, but as soon as it is shooting it brightens. This is much brighter than the f2.8 so I can only assume that due to the low light the camera is trying to compensate by artificially enhancing the light, which causes the issues with noise and banding etc. All other setting are the same - ISO, Shutter speed etc.

I can get nice contrasts between the light and dark areas, all be it much darker overall with the Hanimex. The 14-42 is brigher all round but unusable with the noise and banding.

Is this normal? How can I get the 14-42 to shoot in the low lights with out doing what it is doing to 'help' me out?
