GH1 bling

The zoom lens won't let you use a matte box and be able to zoom at the same time, so get screw-on filters instead.

Unless you're using a screw-on mattebox or rods that telescope but I don't know if either are a really good idea.

I head the india mattebox on Ebay isn't too bad.

I wasn't aware of Philip Bloom's article. Thanks for pointing it out. It's an interesting option, but I would still go with screw-on filters and a lens hood for this type of camera. I should also point out that some primes physically change their length when focusing as well, such as the Zeiss ZF.

I'm using all screw-on filters. I have lenses with varying filter ring sizes so I stepped them all up to 82mm and got all 82mm filters. Get yourself some ND's and a polarizer to start out.

Thanks. If you were going to buy one ND filter to throw on the stock lens, what would you get?

You don't buy just one, unless it's a Vari-ND which is pricey. You should have a .3, .6, and .9 (or 2x, 4x, 8x).

You shouldn't get just a .6. There might be times when you only need/want a .3. There could also be times when you really need a .9. So you get one of each: .3, .6, and .9.

I bought an 82mm screw-on petal hood from Adorama. It was cheap. I don't really like it, but it's the best solution I've really been able to find so far. I had to use some blackwrap in a pinch on a shoot last week so I'm thinking of trying one of those soft wrap around velcro things.

One of the things that I find really useful if the Wimberly "Plamp". It's a clamp-on flexible arm that can be used for many purposes, not the least of which is holding a shade over the lens. Works very well for those time when you actually need a hood.

Cheers,

I understand. I'm curious what hoods people have found/use. What is a good 'velcro thing?'

Check out the frame I came up with for the AGH1, This is not the camera shown, that's the G1. I am waiting for the HD version, biut I wanted to make the adapter so it would be ready. It has 2 shoes for light and mike, The wireless reciever bracket will be replaced with perhaps another shoe, since this is the older Sennheiser receiver. The new one is smaller. Nikon adapter on the camera, Beachtek adapter for audio with quick release mounted on it. Grip are being replaced, waiting for them now. I could not figure out how to post the photos so the link is included.
Thought someone would be interested.

Thanks

Interesting. Is that the BeachTek DXA-5D you're using? What are the audio specs recording on the GH1 with it? I found in the Temp FAQ that the AVCHD modes recored 48Khz, Stereo, 192Kbps AC3, but I could not find this stated on the Panasonic site.

Cheers,

That Plamp looks pretty cool. How much weight can it hold?

Actually in noon daylight to use 1/50 and f/2.8 with 100 ISO I need two 0.9 (2xND8)!
