GH1 Availability

All theirs are supposedly sold, but they''ve not confirmed the payment. They're going to have the owner call me tomorrow in case one of them becomes available. These people were so much nicer then J&R on the phone.

Yeah I talked to the owner too, they will try to nicely sell you cards bags etc. But no hard sell...
 
You don't need a FireWire card reader. Nothing is more pointless. The transfer rates of memory cards are so low that they're only a fraction of what USB 2.0 can do.

I bought a pair of 16GB Kingston Class 4 cards from J&R today for less than $64 shipped. They're the best value (considering reliability, performance, and price) that I was able to find.
 
SD cards don't approach CF cards in speed, so the Firewire reader is a bit pointless...

I shoot a lot on the Red ONE with CF cards. My GH1 is going to be for low budget projects that can't afford the Red, but I need the card reader to be dual purpose.

J&R is who I'm currently having issues with. I'm glad that your experience has been better then mine.
 
Amazon had it for a whole day. I'm sure they will have them again soon, I suggest you preorder from them. There's one for sale on ebay for $1599 but if you do cashback from Bing I believe you get 10% off which will be cheaper than anywhere else.
 
Amazon had it through Onecall, I wouldn't classify that as Amazon having it, as they claimed they were going to have it through themselves, not a dealer, and I am not sure if they ever did...despite taking preorders early...which is why I am holding off ordering new Lumix lenses from them.
 
As soon as I canceled my J&R preorder, Abel Cine called to tell me they had one with my name on it. :-) It's in the mail and I'm super happy, despite losing my Bing cashback. Wish it was here for a movie premier this weekend, but I'll live without it.

when I saw on the 5th it was Amazon for $1499. it was showing In Stock ship and sold by Amazon. I saw onecall from third party section too.
 
The Amazon listing on the morning of the 5th was directly through Amazon - when I saw it they had 6 left.
