GH1 availability around the world thread

August 27th is very strange... Surely they predicted demand well enough to avoid 3 month delays, especially as it was ready in great enough numbers to sell in Japan in APRIL!! In good quantities too... and it remains in stock there, although in rather limited capacities.

I remember reading an interview with Panasonic's GH1 team, which said they would not decide to launch it until they were sure the world economy was not going to get any worse. I think Panasonic see the GH1 as a luxury item and they rated down their sales forecasts dramatically, compared to the G1, which has hit availability. In fact, a similar thing with the LX3 happened.

That is lame. I have an order with amazon from May 14 but my status still says by June 30th. Did you happen to update your order in any way (change shipping or adding items). Some people have upgraded their shipping and had their order bumped to the end of the line. Or my order might just not be updated to reflect the reality of the situation yet...
 
Amazon just told me, by phone, that they do not know when the shipment will come and and they changed me to one day shipping.
 
For not knowing when the shipment will come, August 27th is a pretty specific date. Or maybe it was just to set your expectations that it won't be for another TWO MONTHS?! Yikes! This stinks!

MSRP is SGD 2499 (incl. GST); without asking I got it for 10% less plus an 8GB Kingston Class4 SD card, a camera bag (albeit pretty lousy) and an MP3 player. I also bought a second battery for SGD 169 (MSRP SGD 199; original Panasonic).
The shop only had the black model, I forgot to ask how many they got (selfish, I know...)

Since begin of May I regularly checked in the shops. Apparently the GH1 was launched in Singapore on Thursday 25th. This afternoon I checked with the shop but it was not there yet. I gave them my phone number to call me when it arrives -- and they called me an hour later!

Apparently two other guys have "preordered" with that particular shop too.

I just found probably the last one in Melbourne Australia and put a deposit on it for collection this afternoon.

Woo hoo!
