GH1 and GF1 as broadcasing solutions

Guys, this is not proper solutions.

I just found proper one:

Creston QuickSwitch HD™ 8x1 HDMI Switcher

Looking at data and user impressions this is right thing. Unlike dumb switches this thing actually maintains connection with each device and switches instantly.

It looks like even better Creston solutions can be used if sclability is not an issue (plus some of them have very handy long Cat5e interface that can be converted back to cheap HDMI for less than HDMI to SDI converter).

Creston analog component switchers similar to one previously mentioned can be bough much cheaper.

Generally cheapest solution is as follows

1) HDMI to component converters (they are extra cheap from $40 to $60).
2) Component switcher with RS-232 control, so operator can use software for switching then necessary ($800-$900).
3) Plus initially mentioned recorder (it have component input).
Total within $2000 with all cables (for 7 cameras).

Quality - reasonable, as we'll have very short analog cables.
Scalability - very good (up to 16 cameras without any problems).

HDMI only solution
1) Creston QuickSwitch 8x1 - $3000
2) Recorder.
Total within $3500 with all cables (for 8 cameras).

Quality - good, but switches still can be not ideal.
Scalability - ok (8 cameras is enough for most situations, cascading with RS232 control can be possible).

Proper HD-SDI solution
1) HDMI-SDI converters ($400 each, many have problems with future 1080p60)
2) Atlona 5x2 HD/SD-SDI Reclocking Switch ($950, same problems with 1080p60)
3) Recorder.
Total within $3600 with cables (for 5 cameras).

Quality - good.
Scalability - Poor (for my task). You need better switch ($1900 from Blackmagic, or make cascading system) and $400 for each new camera.

what is all this for exactly?
p.s. i'd like to make a $ donation for your efforts please tell me where to donate a little $

I am going to bump this up. With the upcoming GH2 and hdmi out support maybe this may come up more often.

What I am looking for is a 3 camera GH2 HDMI live switch solution being captured into a mac pro. So from what I am reading is the best way is to go to hd- sdi with converters.

For my solution it would be $1200 for the aja converters then I need a hd-sdi switcher. like this one.

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/498329-REG/Burst_Electronics_DSR4X1.html -- $1280

then a hd-Sdi input card on the mac pro. -$280

We are shooting a high school news show. We have in the past switched with a Datavideo SD firewire switcher but now we are moving to HD and are trading in the switcher for a HD solution.

I am just looking for something that allows us to live switch 3 HD cameras relatively inexpensively.
