GH1 Remote Control POSSIBLE in Movie Mode - $8.00

I'm not sure if this is obvious to GH1 movie shooters... I read somewhere it was not possible...

I wanted a remote Remote Shutter for Recording Movies for
my Panasonic Lumix GH1.

It appeared to me that the Remote would only work with Stills, and not work for Movie mode.

However...
It does work, here’s how:

- Choose the Creative Movie Mode from the top mode dial
- When you do this, the normal shutter button on the front will start and stop movie recording - as well as the rear RED record button.
(you can’t take stills in this mode anyways)
- when I attach the remote, when in the Creative movie mode, I can control Movie recording!

I got the remote on ebay:

When mounting my GH1 on some rigs, I really can use this remote control feature.

Hi vcassel:
Q:
>So this should be possible with any remote?
A:
Hmmm... I'm afraid I don't know.
I have only owned TWO remotes (Panasonic GS500 and GH1)

I did some research... found I wiring diagram...

- too much trouble for me, and I would save nothing ;(

I found a compatibility list on ebay for a similar remote
http://cgi.ebay.com/Remote-Panasoni...=Camera_Camcorder_Remotes&hash=item5adbb6e64c

Compatible WithLeica: Digilux 2, 3

Forgot to mention...
Cord length is a nice 35 inches or 0.89 meters

I found a $30 Remote Shutter for GH1 on Amazon.com - but many reviews complained about its short 24 in. cord length.

I'll try it out - it seems like a very solid piece... and it was shipped very quickly to me up here in Canada.

any trigger remote made for the gh1 will work for video if you put the camera in creative movie mode cause thats all it will shoot, video =)

the trigger I have is tiny compared to yours, looks like a mini pod on a cord(think sushi roll soy sauce containers that look like fish). cant seem to find it on ebay anymore. works well but am now looking at the cactus radio shutter release if I want to get away from the camera.

It's just a shutter release remote...it "should" work just like the shutter release button on your camera...i.e. half press to focus...full press to start video recording...continue to half press to retain focus lock (no AF-S on the GH1 unfortunately).

I have a similar one off eBay from China that cost less than an order of shrimp fried rice...shipped.

It works, but after a while it started working intermittently. It doesn't seem to be quality issue/bad wiring...it seems to be something weird going on inside the camera. I threw it into the camera junk box...I don't use it at work due to its unreliability. I might try the more expensive Panasonic model, or one of the eBay timer remotes in the future.

BTW, you should always have your camera in Creative Movie Mode when shooting video. ;)

Well, I went ahead and purchased this $45 JJC unit.

For half the price of "genuine" Panny accessory one gets 4 functions, 2 of which are absolute ass-kickers: 1) an interval function which allows taking up to 399 shots at a programmable interval -- say hello to awesome timelapses; and 2) multiple exposure function -- set the number of shots to 5, select appropriate auto-bracketing settings on GH1 and upon hitting start it will take a full bracketing sequence at minimum delay. Very useful for taking those HDR shots.

And of course, in Creative Movie Mode it will start / stop movie recording without ever touching the camera :)

One last thing, Rainbow ships fast, WICKED fast!

The JJC actually isn't limited to 399 interval shots - your card space is the only limit. Just set it to (--) and it's endless.

That's what the manual stated. That's great to know and even better as I have a 32Gb one!

Is this a photo of the actual plug?

I purchased a similar accessory: JYC MC-P1 http://www.dealextreme.com/p/digita...r-for-panasonic-fz-20-fz-20k-more-2-aaa-51748

sku_51748_2.jpg
(DealExtreeme is chepaer but ships sooo slow).
The programmable interval seems to work perfect, but - my JYC MC-P1 does not operate my Panasonic DSC-GH1 camera! I am trying to investigate if the issue is with the camera or the remote (never attempted to connect a remote to my camera before).
On my remote, and other pics I saw on th eweb, the remote plug has 4 connections: http://www.dealextreme.com/photogallery.dx/sku.51748~seQ.4

sku_51748_5.jpg
Your picture shows only 3 connections. Is the picture an actual picture of a plug that works?

Thank you,
Yosi Karl.

I fixed mine by opening it up and noticing a resistor bent and touching other components. Perhpas your trouble is the same. After I fixed that and shaved the plug so it went in easier, my unit works great... Al

I've been using one of these for awhile now and the whole time thought I was limited to 399 photos. Just came across this thread and this was the best news! Awesome!
