GH1 2K Footage?!

I am coming across footage on YouTube from the GH1 with the user noting the resolution of the file is 2K.

Are they doing this in camera, or in post, how is a 1080p file holding up to a 2K upres?

It is definitely done in post. The guy used an anamorphic adaptor, which squishes the image horizontally (almost like a wide angle adapter, but only affects the x-axes). In post he stretched the image (to get the right aspect ratio) resulting in 2k video (something like 2592*1080).

2K is 2048 x 1152. If someone stretched it to 2592, that isn't 2k, that's some nonstandard format.

And 2K isn't all that different from 1080p anyway. 2048 vs 1920, and 1152 vs 1080. 2K is a tiny bit bigger, but only barely so.
