Firstly, I've not had mine apart yet;
Yes, an external mic is best, but has anyone modded the internal mic?
How about adding extra damping? Both internally and externally.
Of course, we're looking to lessen lens focus and body handling noise.
Pic below From the GH1 service manual, the mic is damped with some sort of pad over(?) the
top of the mic itself.
Looks quite easy to access the internals.
Ideas?
1. Damp under the mic PCB, damp over the mic PCB, but under the mic unit...
2. Thin Self-adhesive Damping foam (1mm or less)
3. Spray foam (messy, but would fill the housing completely)
(you'd tape over the mic unit holes, first, to prevent ingress)
4. mouse pad foam.
5. Line the mic/flash receptacle (underneath the flash when closed)

Any thoughts, (other than buying an external mic, which is the easy way out)
