GH-1 vs. t2i - bring it!!

1. YOU CAN GET RID OF THE BANDING and newer models don't have it, I rented a GH1 once that didn't have the problem at all.
Thanks Psynema

well what the hell then!!!! Can anyone else confirm that there is a difference between older and newer models?? And if so- am I covered somehow by a manufacturers warranty for the first year?? Can I replace?? Can I get in touch w/ panny(cringe-god I've heard horror stories) and tell them my cam is faulty??
MADHMC I know some of these have been covered in other threads so don't freak out on me ok?:engel017: I just want a cam that works!!!

Very true.... BUT... I think the debate is about how they perform when you don't have the ability to light the scene, or when you need to shoot for an hour straight.

Like a live event.

"This is better than that" for this purpose... is the debate.

I was responding to this post. Sorry if you got lost.

Didn't JDS make a film that Barry produced that is being projected in a theater at the moment. Maybe JDS or Barry could comment on how they feel it holds up on that large screen. IMO from what I have seen in other venues, it's good, however at the cost of these cameras, I find it very very hard to complain.

ATL... If I am running a full production - usually music concert or other performances I would need:

Over an hour record time, all day shooting abilities
WFM
Zebras
Audio meters/XLR
Built in ND filters
External Monitor(s) (for producer/director)
CCD chips :) (no jello, rolling shutter, moire)
No DSLR focusing problems (zoom and have to refocus)
Timecode syncing

Want:
Articulating LCD
Auto Focus (at least the option)
Match well with other cameras, hmc in my case

and other things I cant remember :)

Panny doesn't consider it a defect - it does go away over time.

I am still weary of showing up to a paid event with a DSLR no mater what it is... for me they are all lacking features I would typically need on at least my A and B cams... may be looking at using the GH1 as a C or D cam soon. I tried 2 canon vSLRs at events so far - I just wouldn't use them for paid gigs and risk not getting the shot.

Company I work with has used 2 mark iis at events exclusively for over a year.

The "color banding" goes away. The FPN stays.

The color banding looks like purple/yellow streaks. The FPN looks like thin black lines.

ATL media, I'm in the ATL too. I have a GH1. We could get together sometime if you wanted to check it out firsthand.

Not at all saying it can't be done... 5D is a nice cam, used it and love it. But that doesn't mean they dont have these issues too and have some other equipment or workaround to get by. 5D is also a LOT more camera then a t2i.

Over an hour record time, all day shooting abilities -------------------------- GH1 does this doesn't it?
WFM ------------------------------------------------------- I would miss this, but can probably cope
Zebras ----------------------------------------------------- This would be a big one for me.... Would have to try it first to know.
Audio meters/XLR --------------------------------------- I already use external digital audio so no biggie for me.
Built in ND filters ------------------------------------------ I can deal with having to slap on a fader ND
External Monitor(s) (for producer/director) ----------------------------------- That would be me... heh =)
CCD chips :) (no jello, rolling shutter, moire)
No DSLR focusing problems (zoom and have to refocus)
Timecode syncing - No timecode on the HDSLRs? Oops... didn't know this one.

How does the GH1 match up with the 150?

That would be sweet.. Thanks for the offer!

I'm not sure-but somewhere along the lines here my thread has been hijacked!!
This is not HMC150 hour-

this was supposed to be info on t2i-gh1

no offense guys

ATL, You could definitely get away with the GH1

I shot the GH1 and HMC a few times together so far and love the results. They are not exactly the same, but with some setting mods I get pretty close. I had a lot more problems getting 5d or t1i footage to match with the hmc - canons are black crushers imo :)

Its not hijacked - just comparing features one may need (me) in situations you may be running a dslr into... I should have said PRO VIDEO cameras, not limiting it to just the HMC differences.

Not for me dude- I see both

Yeah some people say it doesn't go away on their units. It seems hit/miss.

I had BAD purple/yellow banding for a couple days after getting the camera. I couldn't even shoot indoors with normal lighting. After a week or so of constant shooting, it seemed to fade. I then found the whole "burn-in" thread and gave that a try. I'd swear on my camera that the color banding is gone now.

Other people swear that it didn't help them at all. Who knows.

I'm thinking of ordering my T2I today. If of course I can find a place that has it in stock..

It is info on T2i vs GH1... It's just on how they each perform against equipment we own already.

It's actually very informative instead of the typical "My cam is better than yours" that usually results from cam X vs cam Y threads.

Sweet... How do they compare in lowlight?

I'm all for informative...however, I can't help but feel in some sort of 'backhanded' way- this IS turning into a my cam is better than yours thread.

whatever- no worries- I've got the info I need, thanks all:thumbsup:
