Yeah, at 2:06 I may have been at ISO 1600. It was really dark out there.
I'll let you know when I get to that candle test.

If you want to check out some low-light from GH1 look at 'Closing Time' in my sig link.
I can even get banding in very highly lit situations too if I do something stupid like stop-down too much to try to avoid clipping in bright areas. It's just easier to get banding in lower light because your contrast starts going down too much.
So yeah there are folks who just say "light it properly" and all that, but sometimes you just can't. sometimes you do it for effect, sometimes you do it at the spur of the moment, sometimes you want to give it a try even though you know it's wrong.
but seriously, didn't you do some noise reduction in AE? so do you recall any banding or anything like that?
YEP! so are people using different scene settings for low-light? i.e. SMOOTH w/ more contrast, noise red. etc NATURAL, NOSTALGIC, yadda yadda
I found that one of the settings gives you slightly better brightness in low light. I can't remember what it is offhand though, I'll have to take a look when I get home.
GH1 body is $300 new if you buy right and sell kit lens.
As always, it depends on what or how your going to shoot. For what I do, the GH1 is ideal. Your situation may or may not be different than mine.

You might as well wait until the successor of the GH1 comes out.
I posted a link to this thread in the Canon EOS 7d forum- but people are responding there as well.
Ben, (or anyone) can you comment on this:
originally posted by N.E.S.:
"I owned a GH1, now own a T2i. Yes the T2i is better in low light. One thing I must note though is the GH1 has banding in low light and the T2i has none, which to me was an easy deciding factor on which to keep.
Overall though IMO the T2i is a better camera for video and at least x2 as an actual photo camera. The T2i uses newer technology and simply compresses less allowing for more information and better video quality when used correctly.
If you are looking for that amazing low light camera though it would be neither the T2i or Gh1 but the Canon 5D."
I knew I shouldn't have wrote it that way. I should have said if your willing to wait. I understand completely. I was choosing between a GH1 or the HMC40 but because I had a chance to pick up a GH1 in July and that the HMC40 was going to cost a lot more, I couldn't wait any longer.I haven't heard of the successor yet? NAB maybe? I'll need it in at most a month so I probably won't be able to wait. If I waited for the "next best thing" I'd wait forever.
And by "buy right" you mean from the back of a van in a shady neighborhood?GH1 body is $300 new if you buy right and sell kit lens.
So $800 will get you:
a) GH1 + 20mm 1.7+ $100 for hookers
b) GH1 + FD 50mm 1.2 + FD 24mm 2 + $100 for hookers
c) T2i (whatever that is)
It's your choice, I know what I went with...
No hate all love man.![]()
Anyone working on SIDE BY SIDE yet?
The last thread like this closed... bold to start the debate up again... Again its going to boil down to your NEEDS.
