GF1 testing and footage goes HERE

Well done, that looks fantastic. What housing did you use? I'm too much of a fatalist to take my GF1 underwater. Chicken, I think is the clinical term.

lol, i use the 10bar housing, it's one of the less expensive housings, but it's built like a tiny tank, watertight and has a small footprint. inon do one if money is no limit, but it's bigger.

can someone help me out with avchd on the GF1? i've been out the loop a bit on avchd and am a bit of a noob when it comes to it. what is the maximum bitrate, a class 10 card can reliably record at 1080? can you get 1080 with avchd on gf1? i assume it's 60i, not 30p. and i assume it's 4:2:0, there isnt 4:2:2 available yet, is there? i dont need to playback in camera, and have no problems recording the 100bit/4:2:2/720/mjpeg on my class 10s so it could be higher than the Fast Action 3-Frame GOP Patch if anyone has managed it. many thanks, at the moment i'm in the philippines, so internet access is a little harder.

I shoot GF13 video mainly with LPowell's 50Mbps PTool setting, but this is of course 720p. I don't believe true 1080p is possible in AVCHD on the GF1. You can shoot 1920x810 MJPEG with LPowell's Anamorphic PTool setting and scale it up to 1080p but that's MJPEG not AVCHD.

As for max bitrate for these cards I can't say, but I shoot the above settings exclusively with Transcend 16GB Class 10 and Class 6 SDHC cards and never have any issues.

I agree with shaveblog. 1080p AVCHD is not possible on GF1. But MJPEG is open for experimenting with Anamorphic patch.
Today I achived 100 Mbit/s with Anamorphic patch. But I need to test his reliability more. I use Sandisk Extreme class 10 card.

Here is my test footage from today with Lpowell's Anamorphic patch.
No grading or postprocesing only upsample to 1080 with FCP. Sandisk Extreme 8GB class 10 card.
I combined it with Sparedog '400 24' settings without 422 color profile. Video bitrate was around 100Mbit/s and maximum on 109 Mbit/s.
My shutter speed was 1/125s. I got crash on "timelaps scene" and when I lowered my shutter speed under 1/125s everything went fine after.
So I dont know if shutter speed have any connection with bitrate but it helped me.
its not totally reliable but quality is amazing...

1080p avchd works if you turn it on in the ptool settings. However, it will ONLY work at 1/50th shutter. I have used it and, within its limitations, it works quite well.

great test irfan. i would be interested in what happens when you film with a shutter speed of 1/60, as that's an equivelent to 180 degrees (the shutter angle that suits 30 fps best for broadcast etc)

zcream, is it upscaled 720 or do you think true 1080?

I think its proper 1080p. The MJPEG was used by mpegsvcd in tests earlier, that was similar to 720p. This one seems to have more res.
However, as I mentioned, its only 25p and 1/50th shutter, so it may be a problem for some people. For me its fantastic.
At ISO 400 (thats the max that the GF1 works without too much noise) and a converted Navitar 25mm f0.95 lens, the shots I managed with street lighting are fantastic.

25fps, do you think this is because you have a pal gf1? would i be able to do 29.97 at 1/60, or is this the maximum data rate you think it can achieve?

Look at the posts by Vitaliy somewhere..If you use any framerate other than 50 you will get a shadow in half the image. Weird artifacts. I tried it and can confirm that 25p and 1/50 work.
30p and 1/50th MAY work. 1/60th is a problem. Try it out.

This is not right place to ask. You have thread Ptools for beginners.
Put your patch in same folder as PTOOL and then you will see it in Ptool in settings section under A letter.

ok, so i have finally been able to take the camera underwater and test it in the field. in a real world scenario, it worked perfectly! and the results are incredibly good.

Did you remove the video?
Have you some wa underwater shoot to show us?
I found this discussion on 10Bar housing on wetpixel:

http://wetpixel.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=32112&view=findpost&p=267302

Is it really a PITA shooting full manual with this housing?

MJPEG only works properly at the standard 30p frame rate, in both NTSC and PAL cameras. The PTool patch that alters the MJPEG frame rate to 24p does not change the camera's 30fps internal sensor scanning rate, it only causes the camera to drop frames as needed to produce a video with 24 unevenly spaced frames per second.

yes the housing is a bit of a beast to work with, but it is cheaper than the rest and it's built like a tank, so all in all i've stuck with it.
next week I start a 3 week underwater assignment in the philippines, and again will be using this great camera set up.

I am a Japanese .my english is so poor. I trid many times. however I think i dont understand well how to do it.
I found GF1 v_1.22bin and ptool v3.51d and tried. v1.22bin is new One?
where can I find new one(GFv_1.24)?
http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?216881-New-GF1-v1.24-and-GH1-v1.34-firmware-hack-problems

I Just tried to change increment each times and overwrite 1.22bin. I have to change the name of bin like 1.23bin1.24...1.28bin etc. with increasinfg of increment?
how about more than 10 times?
though I read this one.. http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?215526-GH1-and-GF1-firmware-hack-for-dummies
6. Click on Save Modified Firmware and save the new firmware as your increment in the Version Change i.e. GF1__123.bin (for 3 Version Change) or GH1__139.bin (for 9 Version Change) etc. DO NOT OVERWRITE the original firmware.
what is original firmwear? sorry i may not undestand basical things.

as for "Patches for Testers -> Middle Level Research -> Menu Related -> FHD Mode"
are multi explosure menu and manual movie mode(old ver) checked?

please help me. thanks
