Getting Older

For any of you mid to late 30 somethings, and those of you who are in your 40s+, can you remember that point when you felt like, "oh my God, I am my DAD'S age when I was a kid!"?? I am having a hard time with this.

I turn 35 in May and I am just not ready to be all growd up.

Yes, I get it. I will be 35 no matter what, so suck it up, face it like a man and embrace it. Well, the simple fact is, that I don't know when it happened, it kind of snuck up on me...but it seemed like yesterday, I was acting, doing all sorts of theater, moving to Cali to check out the scene, hanging out with fellow 20somethings...but now, when I see a hot girl in a movie, and she barely tips the 20 scale, it hits me like an ACME piano falling out of the sky..."my GOD, I can already be her DAD!!!" KILL ME!!!

When did that happen?? Don't get me wrong, I'd still give a hot 20 year old a full body massage, but man oh man, a what point did giving a 20 year old the 'come hither look' make me feel like a dirty old man?

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go take a shower.

dude you need to get smooth.

focus the chi you dont need the 20 year old...they should come running to you and if they dont. **** it. be like bond...you dont see him in movies checking out 20 year old girls they are irrelevent, just disarm the lazer....

I dont know what Im talking about.

Im 24.

but I know bond.

man, hugh hefner reinvented himself at 34 and began living the playboy life.

All you need now is a mansion, softporn publishing empire and some slippers.

Yeah, I feel your pain. Well, I felt it a long time ago. I'm 45 now but I still feel like I did when I was 18. It's kind of cruel really - it's like taking an 18 year old kid and putting him into this old man's body. My mind still wants to do all the things I used to do but the body is unwilling. Sad.

But here's my reality: I have a GREAT wife who supports all my little hobbies (film, music, etc.) and who does not want me to grow up. I have a good enough job so I can afford to buy all my little toys. I couldn't do that when I was 18.

If I had the opportunity to go back I would have to say no. I like it here!

That's funny, I was just talking to my wife about this the other night. I said to her something like "Can you believe we are parents?" I am thirty five and have a two year old girl, yet I can clearly remember what it is like to be a kid and having to listen to your parents. Life is pretty damn cool/cruel. The cycle just becomes clearer when you get older. Hold on to your youth on the inside. Responsiblity and having fun can coexist quite nicely.

I reckon I'll get to 30 and totally change....

I'll be like "sorry friends but you aren't suave enough for me and frankly I want to go posh drinking"

then ill wear £1000 suits and go to bars with over priced drinks and say things like

"totally"

and also,

"of course he didn't apologise, I had security take him away."

and hopefully

"what the f**k is this? I asked you for a chocolate milkshake...this has no body or passion, look at my shoes.........now look at my face, does it not look 30 and serious? GET THE F**K OFF MY SET"

I hear you. I have a friend in a band here in NYC. One night, they were playing CBs and had a bunch of super hot young women at the show. I was hanging, chatting and such. Then I directed one to where the after party would be. And she said:

"Thank you, sir."

Sir? I just grabbed my Cialis and limped home.

HAHAHAHAHA! Now THAT is funny.

I'm 39 and I know exactly of what you speak.

It reminds me of the Talking Heads song, "Once in a Lifetime":

And you may find yourself behind the wheel of a large automobile
And you may find yourself in a beautiful house, with a beautiful wife
And you may ask yourself - Well... How did I get here?

Chris,

That's the perfect song for the situation. That's the part of growing older that I wouldn't give up. When you're older you do get to play with better toys....if not 20 year old toys. :)

I'm 36 and loving it. I'm saggin', but still braggin'.
