Getting my HMC150 Monday--anybody want an unboxing video?

I ordered my HMC150 last week and according to the UPS tracking, I am suppose to be getting it in Monday but before I open it, I was curious if any non-owning HMC150 fans on the site wanted an unboxing video from me.

If so, let me know and I'll do one (it'll be my first). If not, then I'll just open it and enjoy the whole thing to myself.

I own one but here's the thing I never unboxed it my self .
So you will be doing a fellow user a big favour.
I always wonder what it would feel like and you dont have to wear something formal ......

Congrats.

Sweet. Maybe I'll open it wearing a smoking jacket and in front of a roaring fire...

my hmc150 is yet to come, till then i'll enjoy watching you unboxing the thing.
I am eager to see it, please show the whole camera. :2vrolijk_08:

I live in Dallas, and own an HMC perhaps I could shoot it for you on the HMC, a more all around type of feel for the camera

Hey, thanks but a friend of mine has got me covered, but I do appreciate the offer though. :)

Just an update--got my camera in today! I'm super happy!! The friend who was going to shoot the unboxing bailed on me at the last minute but I shot it myself with my Canon HV20, so I'll try and get that posted either tomorrow or Wednesday (no promises though. I gotta busy week ahead of me).

Anyway, here are few first impressions of the camera: coming from the DVX100A, this camera is designed very similiarly but it is much lighter. I couldn't believe it when I took it out of the package. I love the carcole black-ish finish the body has, and the fact that the LCD that shows a true widescreen image with black bars (again, I'm coming from a DVX100A, people).

The only thing I was dissapointed with is that the camera didn't come with any SDHC card at all! I don't know how I got the impression that it would come with at least a 4 GB one or something but nope--nothing, nadda. I guess I just assumed. Anyway, so I had to make a quick run to the local Best Buy before they closed to purchase one. I ended up getting a PNY 8 GB Class 4 card for $43.29 after all said and done (I know, I got ripped off. There are plenty on-line at Newegg that are bigger in size, are of a faster class, all for about the same price. Thank God for laxed, 14 day 'Return Polices', though).

Overall, I'm SUPER happy with the purchase. Once I upload the unboxing video, I'll post some raw footage for everyone to download if they want.

Late,

Glad you're enjoying it :). I remember lifting mine out of the box thinking "this is the whole camera"? It is much lighter than it looks :).

I also think it's criminal that for an MSRP $3,500 - $4,000 camera, Panasonic didn't see fit to at least bundle a $30 4GB card.

Looking forward to your video :)

No kidding...

No kidding, right? After I opened it and realized there was no memory card provided, I was shocked, frankly. So far, that's been the ONLY negative thing about the camera. Well, that and the fact there is no Firewire jack on the camera (which means no Adobe OnLocation during shoots) but at least we get an HDMI output, I guess....

Yeah, frankly I think it would be amazing if they added a Firewire port that you could optionally use to stream a DVCPRO-HD transcode out of in real-time (appearing as a traditional tape deck to older NLE's), which would also be useful for Adobe OnLocation and the reverse - to stream HD content to the camera so we could pipe that to an HD monitor while editing (just like we all used to do with our SD cameras -- those of us without fancy breakout boxes).

*sigh*, to dream...

Yes, that would certainly be nice!

Anyway, I went ahead and got a Class 6 Transcend 16 GB card off of Newegg today, so as soon as that comes in, I'm takin' that PNY card back to Best Buy. Freakin' ridiculous rip off...

Yeah, it's too bad about not being able to use OnLocation. I'm attempting to shoot a micro-budget feature at the end of the month and I was looking forward to using that while on set--be able to properly log footage as we shoot, to easily double checking for continuity errors and dipping boom mikes, etc.

*sigh* Oh well...

What I always do it make sure the slate is in frame as I start recording so if I need to go back and check continuity or anything I can easily find the take in the thumbnails. Or, just have a good scripty on set to help out.

Yeah, we'll definitely be using a slate since we are recording audio on a separate device entirely (I've always hated the boom mike having an umbilical-cord XLR connection to the camera), so the added benefit is being able to streamline the editing process in post and allow for quick review of footage during the shoot.

Also, as a production, we should move a lot faster without having to lug around a laptop, Firewire cable, and having to constantly keep the battery charged and what not.

Great advice, KKeller.

Ahh, yes I remember that endless nest of boxes inside boxes. Since you ordered B&H check the shipping sticker on that inside box. If it's like mine, it has the address of a Japanese office shipped to the B&H shipyard in NYC. I thought that was pretty cool.

No disrespect. Really. But....
I'm kinda speechless....
Is this for real?

Unboxing videos are common, especially for new/expensive gadgets. As unboxing videos go (many are awful) this is nicely done - it keeps a good pace :)
