Getting high (ISO) on MTV's "Mary + Jane"

Latest episode of Mary + Jane, "Jeneeuary" is airing all week on MTV, or for those with cable/satellite log-ins you can watch here: http://www.mtv.com/full-episodes/eaepav/mary-and-jane-jeneeuary-season-1-ep-104.

This was the first episode where I really got to push the Varicam to the hilt, shooting night exteriors between 3200 and 5000 ISO with only supplemental lighting in the foreground. If you watch the episode, the scenes of Jordan wandering around outside the party and in the Bronco are all these. Plus the party itself was shot at 2000 ISO, down from 5000.

Nice stuff Charles. Sounds like you're really settling in with the Varicam. Has it basically supplanted the Alexa for you at this stage? Or just for certain things?

It worked well for this last two projects. Depends on what the next one will be. I'm also curious about the noise reduction on the SXT Alexa and how that will impact higher ISO's.
