Getting audio during capture from XH A1

I'm having a strange problem that has me perplexed. When I capture from my XH A1 to premiere, if I open the LCD screen and can hear the audio from the camera, the audio will be captured by Premiere. But if I tuck away the LCD screen, Premiere will capture the video but not the audio... am I doing something wrong or is this just the way it is?

I'm not sure if this issue is software specific, but no one had an answer in the Premiere forum so I thought I would ask here.

One thing i found out, is once you start to capture, dont stop. I also messed with the camera while capturing, and i messed something up. Best thing to do is leave it alone.
