Get Your Files Ready

I Just zipped the two together and used filezilla ftp(winxp free program) and presto. I've found web browser dont always make good ftp clients.

I am getting a really sweet looking H.264 .mp4 out of sorenson, with basically default settings, except for the 400X225. 5:54 comes out to 43.7 Megs. All the colors are crisp and everything.

Oh yeah, and Filezilla rules the school.

It can be mp4?? thought it had to be a .mov file id rather mp4 that puppy
 
Well I guess I need to ask, because it wasn't specified. All he said was H.264. And MP4s play in Quicktime fine.

I don't want to have to buy that QT Pro just for this...

So, what's the bottom line? I've found that my mp4 version looks better also, and the file size is smaller. It sounds like you would prefer .mov, but is .mp4 OK?
 
So after many tries of not getting a good but small file out of QTPro, I finally tried encoding my mp4 with QTPro.

It took a 40 meg file and turned it into a 129Meg file. Beautiful.
 
I'm having the worst time trying to get a <50 meg file size with any kind of quality using QT Pro. My Sorenson H.264 MP4 is well under 50 and very high quality. Can we please use the MP4?
 
I'm trying one final thing now, and it's almost there. I've been encoding the QT from my MP4, and messing with settings. I got it down to 53Megs and it looks good. But still, it's silly that it's ADDING data from a 40 meg file that looked perfect in the first place.

I'll let you know my settings if this pass works.
 
FCP 4.5 HD doesn't allow me to export mpeg2. Is there an alternative export option I can use for the DVD? Thanks for the help.
 
I wonder if Jarred would increase the file size limitation to 55MB? I seems that a lot of us are getting fairly decent compression and quality under 55MB. And it also looks like a lot of the films are close to 6 minutes? 55MB might be the magic number?

I'm getting fairly decent compression with QT, but the file size is 54MB. I've been struggling all night and morning trying to get it under 50MB.

What say you Jarred?

I can't seem to do H.264... are there are any other acceptable alternatives? Using FCP3... Thanks.

I'll do the same, if I have any luck. Is anyone else having this challenge? I'm going to end up spending more time on this production trying to compress to under 50MB than I spent actually in production!

Does anyone have settings using QT7 pro (Windows), compressing a 6 minute movie to under 50MB with decent quality?
 
Wow, I think u need up to desperately upgrade from FCP3! I'm a PC user, but I know that copy's pretty out of date.

Anyway, you can probably try rendering out a fully uncompressed QT file, then purchase QT7Pro, and recompress it with h.264 from there. OR, perhaps just installing QT7Pro on your system will allow FCP3 to export with the proper codec ... sometimes those kinds of things work on PC, not sure.

As for the folks that were asking .mov vs. mp4, it SOUNDS like you can go mp4 if you have to, but I'll warn you that the last fest (HeroFest), the folks that had the most difficulty having their films viewed by others were those folks who had renered out to mp4 vs. .mov (myself for example).

Lastly, Jarred ...

I know for Sci-Fest, and I think for HeroFest as well, you had allowed 720 wide for the HVX guys so that the films could be shown in all their glory. It was an obvious visual advantage over standard DV then, so why the change now to throw everyone down to the same size of 400 wide (which I 'think' is smaller than previous 480 wide)? My memory's probably off, but I was REALLY looking forward to being able to watch 720P films from those who shot with the HVX. :thumbsup:
 
Update:

Latest settings using QT7 pro (Windows) for 6 minute movie.

H.264, Current, Key Every 24, Data Rate=Auto, Quality 35
Sound Normal, Rate 24Khz

File size= 44.4MB

Quality isn't too hot, but it will work in a pinch.
