Hi, all! just got the GH2 on Thursday, and I've set it all up and shot some test footage. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get the GH2 footage into my Final Cut Pro. (also, what are suggestions on codec?) Any help much appreciated!

Not happening. I think the easiest/cheapest thing is to get the latest iMovie then export your clip into something FCP 5 can handle, which isn't much since it's 6 years old.

Um, I'm not sure if I'm missing something here, but FCP will work with the GH2's files just fine. I use the log and transfer feature (File > Log and Transfer) and use the ProRes LT codec. You can't use the codec as is, which I what I'm guessing Psynema was referring to???

You can just plug the card into the computer and use that function and it will encode the new files to the harddrive (be sure to set your capture location under Final Cut Pro > System Settings. If you also want the original files on your harddrive, copy the entire PRIVATE folder on the SD card. You can rename this folder, but leave the rest along.

But yeah, I can't wait til FCPX is out!

Edit: Ok, I see Psynema was talking about FCP 5, but I was talking about FCP 7. B3Guy-- is that what you have? If so, definitely don't go and buy 7. Wait for X, which should be $299.

Just posted this in another thread. OP is last month so hopefully a solution has been found. Otherwize:

You're going to need to convert the GH2's MTS files to something FCP 5 understands. Do you have Toast Titanium? I know it will convert MTS files to quite a few formats FCP can handle, including ProRes. There's others as well, Adobe Media Encoder, Xilisoft Video Converter, et al.

Also, for kicks, try a test in 720p as I know FCP 6 will import those just fine, it's the 1080i that the older versions of FCP can't handle without conversion.

In 5.1.4, your choices are either Apple Intermediate Codec or DVCProHD.

ClipWrap2 will do this and so will Toast 9/10/11.
