Gentleman Jack Test Video

So since my last, and first, post I have purchased a Nikon D610 for both stills and video.

This is my first real attempt at video. It is handheld with the Sigma 24-105mm lens at f4. Two cheap table lamps (one behind and one to camera right).

I am extremely impressed with the Sigma's OS! I certainly do not have surgeon hands. I did use Premiere stabilizer as well (very evident on the lid screw).

So, what do you guys think? What is good? What is terrible?

Thank you!

1) Get a tripod! If you're low on cash, the "Fancier" tripod they sell on Amazon is an amazing value for under $200.

2) Exposure pulses in some spots as if you're shooting auto. Learn to shoot with manual exposure if that's the case.

3) Product is kinda of blown out/overexposed in several cuts - the label reads OK but the liquid seems gone.

4) Almost every scene has that bizarre warped sizing shifting going on, probably a combo of the lens stabilization and the post stabilization. This varies among all the various lens and in-camera approaches out there, but generally any sort of stabilization should be your last resort. It just looks kind of acid-trippy (like, the first 30 minutes of an acid trip anyway)(Not that I know what that's like!). See #1 above. But a nice first shot at this stuff.

Thanks for the help, Michael!

Yeah, I really need to get a tripod. That one certainly looks legit. A slider would help to I imagine. What is the correct way/tool to get smooth pan up/down shots?

I did everything on full manual, but new to the camera still. In-cam screen showing me its trickery. My post-processing could be a lot of it too, especially the stabilization on the lid screw on.

You're off to a pretty good start. The 610 is a sweet camera and considering the lighting set up you had I think it's pretty cool.
