Generic Battery

I don't know of any 3rd party batteries for the 7D that can communicate with the camera. They can't communicate, and also usually require their own charger.

May change in the future as folks "crack the code", but for now, if you want a "cheap" battery for this camera (as far as I know) you are going to have to live with those limitations, or buy the name brand battery for it... for the time being at least.

Seems to me that getting the "real" battery is always the best way to have the best chance at getting a reliable battery. Generic aftermarket brand batteries may die quickly on you, and you would have ended up either spending the same amount or saving money if you had gotten the Canon battery initially.

:bath:

In general you will also find that these 3rd party batteries will have less charge and will degrade faster meaning that they will not last as long as the canon batteries.

Don't knock it til you try it. knockoffs aren't what they used to be. I got a s#!t-ton of them on eBay for $20 per pair plus the charger. The batteries last just as long as the official canon ones, and are a hellufalot cheaper.

6 batteries and 3 travel chargers for the price of one Official Canon battery.

You make your own choice.

I tested the Battey in My 7d Shooting today and they lasted, I only Purchased two with Chargers for like 30 bucks with Shipping cost included and as far as I have tested they WORK. and If they Die in a year I only spent 12 bucks per battery!!

I understand that the batteries last as long on each charge but they are not built as well so they have fewer re-charge cycles before they begin to lose capacity and eventually become unusable.

If you find any more of those dealies on ebay be sure to post em. I wouldn't mind throwing a 20 on a battery regardless of it's future capacity. In the mean time it will be great to have for trips and such just incase im low on power.

they're always up there, just do a search on ebay using that package description. Sometimes you can get em slightly cheaper on the ones where you can bid on them, there's so many of them.

just purchase some. Lets see how they do... Even just as backups... not wasting much for 20 bucks, 2 batteries and a charger... Even if htey last only an hour or two.
