GH2 General GH2 settings questions

I have three questions that I want to know about that is bothering me.
  1. When I'm doing photography with my GH2, I have it set to M. But when I exposure everything and then shoot the picture is totally different. It's totally under exposed and sometimes over exposed as well I think. How do I fix that?
  2. When filming, the screen gets sliightly more green and a little little bit darker when I hit the shoot button. It's not doing so much harm but still it's not good to know that it changes when hitting the record button.
  3. Is there a way to make the camera save the files in a better order? Like it continues the number of the shots even if I format the card. Like if I shoot a scene, the file is named 00001 and then I format it and shoot another one it names it 00002? Or something similar?
Thank you!

David,

1. "M" is for "manual". Until you learn a little more - both about the camera and about photography - you should use "IA" or "intelligent auto" mode.
2. This is a well-known problem with the GH2. It is called "gamma shift", and it was worse before the latest v1.1 firmware update (you might want to check to see whether you have the update installed).
3. No.

I may be wrong, but I assume the OP is asking why the viewfinder/LCD is not accurately previewing the exposure (correct or not) that he is setting manually. There is indeed a setting for that, however I don't have my camera with me so someone else might like to post the details.

Ok thanks,

1. As GrahamH said, I mean why is the viewfinder not showing the right exposure when doing photography. I have to do everything manually, otherwise it's not going to be perfect. But what I mean is that the photos not seems to use my exposure settings. Like, if I change my shutter speed, you can't see any difference in the viewfinder until you shoot and it shows the photo, but then it's too late of course.

David, when you're taking still photos, press aperature -> display (or trash -> display) to turn SHTR SPEED EFFECT OFF. This will make your LCD screen display how the picture will be taken.

This can get tedious however, because once you take the picture it automatically turns back on, so you have to do it again. The other option is to watch your exposure meter at the bottom. That's a better indicator of what your exposure will be when you snap the pic.

Good luck, I love your color grading examples, keep it up!

**EDIT* On the GH2 you can go to menu>custom>constant preview - on. Try that.

Watch the video below at 8 minutes and 11 seconds into it. The ""M" Manual Mode with Constant Preview Setting" section describes everything you need to know about question number 1. Like ErikTande said the Constant Preview button will do what you want. It only works in "M" manual stills mode though. For all other stills modes you can use the "SHTR SPEED EFFECT OFF" that ErikTande also described above.

The camera shift problem was not improved with the version 1.1 firmware. It is still the exact same as it ever was. Annoying but manageable with color and exposure corrections.

Don't ever use the IA mode. It uses intelligent ISO which never let's the ISO go high enough. I would rather use P mode with Auto ISO and an ISO limit of 3200. However, shutter priority with Auto ISO is the best option for me right now.
