I don't have the best workflow figured out yet for premiere since I don't use cineform...
I have been converting my clips to a quicktime photo jpeg with mpegs tream clip at %70 quality. The gamma stays the same as the original h264 clip... it also plays back smoothly in premiere as a proxy file. When I have my edit done I just re-link the media back to my original H264 files from the camera and render.
I hear that cineform neo scene is the way to go for numerous reasons... i'm sure you can search around to find more answers.
I've been transcoding the raw H.264 clips to MPEG2 HD as proxies and I have noticed that there is some kind of funky gamma shift going on. The blacks are crushed in the mpeg2 versions. I haven't investigated much since they're just proxies and I wasn't doing any color correction but it is something I need to figure out. In fact it seems that the raw H.264 versions when playing in Quicktime are washed out, rather than the mpeg2 version being the problem.
