GH5 Game Over, Panasonic

When transferring files to something like a NAS, big files go at full speed, lots of little files stop for verification every file. It would be a drastic difference in speed between the two on my storage devices (SNS EVO or FreeNAS shares). Same applies for copying the files from camera card to any other hard drive.

There's no point in providing anything else (anything major) to the GH5/S with their new toys around the corner...per usual, it's on to the next, and next, and next.

I seriously doubt how many people buy a camera with this form factor who are interested in RAW. 10bit 422 with 10-12 stops of dr is more than enough.

I just find this comment really ironic given the length of this thread and a healthy does of the excitement revolving chiefly around the fact that it shoots RAW.

RAW in smaller form factor is the dream, given the amount of "saving" that RAW enables it's a bit of misnomer to think the only people interested in codecs like BMD RAW, ProRes RAW, etc. are people who really want big heavy cameras.

Im all for it and would love to have the option and use it at times- Im just saying that its still a very niche market. And this is in the "GH camera section" and not in the "I want RAW" section.

RAW - what percentage use it in the MFT sensor size? That is an interesting question. Let's poll it. I'll start a new thread with a poll.

Close to 0% since it’s a PIA and external recorders defeat the point of M43?

Not interested in external recorders either, but are there any DSLR/MILC that output Raw?

What I really want is a small dedicated motion camera that internally records BRaw, ProRes Raw, or similar, but includes NDs, dual SDI, & accepts the new mini Brick batteries from PAGlink & Hawk-Woods. Something about the size of the Terra 4K, but doesn’t require additional modules.

"more than enough"? For what? For going straight from your camera to YouTube? I guess.

I want RAW motion files for the same reason I want RAW still files. I don't trust my camera to make creative decisions, and I have enough of them to make on set/location that any I can delay to post are most welcome.

I think a GREAT many people (relative to our small industry) want this. Even just one SDI built-in would be fine. At $2,500 they would fly off of the shelves. At $4K I'd probably still buy it. There are a few cameras that are getting dangerously close (EVA, Terra, Pocket 4K) - if some manufacturer had the will, this camera could be made today.

I would be in the market for a video only gh style Ibis camera with enhancements. Time code, mini sdi, mini xlr
I would also want manual focus to be more effective on native lenses, Olympus does a good job of it on the PRO line. The new Leica 10-25mm f1.7 looks great with manual aperture but if it focuses like the rest it’s crap.

Not to speak for Bern, but I think we're talking about a small camera that does *NOT* use a DSLR-style body. This body style has never been ideal for motion work, it just happens to be the body-style of the hybrid revolution. Something that is equally happy hanging from a drone as it is sitting on my shoulder or being slung-around single-handed, depending on how it is rigged.

That’s the point if you ask 10 people to discribe their dream camera of the moment.
You will have 10 different cameras.

Like if you asked would you prefer a Gh5s with IBIS over a gh5s with raw I would say screw the raw give me ibis- because the ibis is for me one of the reasons besides 10bit 422 to use the system. But that’s me and my needs- another user will shake his head at how stupid of me to drop the raw for ibis etc.

Fair point, but a very small "block" camera can be built into DSLR-style, the reverse isn't true. Add a handgrip and a viewfinder, and – presto – DSLR. Remove them, - presto - gimbal rig. Add a shoulder rig - presto - ENG style. You can have your cake and eat it, too.

Just tested Blackmagic RAW on my Ursa Mini Pro...

really disappointed when I discovered that anything lower that 4,6K is cropped. Even if I understand the idea of using the whole sensor, I thought a reinterpolation would have been possible

I was really enjoying the idea that this Blackmagic RAW could make RAW affordable and usable for people like me : documentary shooters who shoots A LOT of footage.

But even if the bitrate is equivalent to prores, I'd never shoot in 4,6K for a full documentary as it would take too much space...even 4K is too cropped, don't even mention HD
