Game of Thrones

It's just the nature of the first book. "A Game of Thrones" is mostly setup for the rest of the books. I couldn't tell any difference between the writing / direction in Episode 6, other than that the story is getting to the meatier parts of the first book.
The scenes actually moved and were blocked better, and the episode focused on a couple central dilemmas, instead of dozens of tiny dramatically inert expository moments.

Coming as a big fan of the book series, I'm really enjoying this series. They're doing an excellent job with the characters and look of everything, and making it work with the original story, even though they obviously have to leave a lot out. Sean Bean, as usual, is awesome, as are the other actors, in particular Peter Dinklage... although I feel that he's not nearly as ugly as his character was written to be, haha.

Anyway, that being said, is it just me, or does the shutterspeed seems to be absurdly high for a medieval fantasy piece? Maybe it's something else, but watching this in HD, on a HD TV, in the dark, just makes it look a little too polished and smooth...

me likey the scenes at the Gate looked the sharpest and cleanest IMO. I dont mind this at all.

Allthough some compositing shots like those of the imp in the room with clouds do look fake but still better then other shows.

Just cant wait to see the whitewalkers I so hope they dont use a generic monster voice that just sounds to theatrical or StarWars even or ..... Dr Claw :)

I havent read anybooks about this nor googled it but where on earth does this take place? I know its fantasy .

Actually, it was just the TV I watched episodes 2, 3, and 4 on - I watched episodes 1, 5, and 6 in HD on a different HD TV, and it looked much better.

As for the location, it's not on Earth...

Alright, tonight's was an awesome episode, the best so far. Hope the last two are just as good. Feels like the real story is finally starting. I think they could have gotten to this point in half the time and not had anything suffer but at least it's finally kicking into gear.

I agree this is one of those shows that works better as a DVD set that you can sit and watch. I actually 'watched' ep 4 on HBO. Had no idea what the heck was going on, felt like I needed a flow chart for all the characters and decided I would look on line to see if HBO was streaming. Sure enough yup AND with an interactive option that includes A FLOW CHART for the families, BTS, a map that you can check out ton of other stuff. This was an excellent bonus and I suggest this is the best way to watch. So I sat and watched the first 4 back to back and loved it. Watched ep 5 and felt the same way as before. So I waited and watched a couple more in a row, yup this is one of those shows that you need at least two to satisfy. I felt the same way about Boardwalk empire, like it moved too slow.

Also LOVE the opening credits, like its a wind up toy of some sort.

This show looks like it's hitting its stride. Last night's final plot development sure was a surprise! And while I would actually liked to have seen the battle, at least they got a good joke out of it. I still think the show could have reached this point in the story in half the time but, it's firing on all cylinders now.

I have to wait until I have a few episodes and then watch them together. I agree that having this as a DVD or Bluray would be the best way to go. Can't wait to start reading the books.

Yup, big time spoilers! I thought those eggs would come into play. Have not read the books, am tempted not to read the books as I would rather see it fresh from the HBO side of things. I know that I was less into the HPotter movies after I read the books.. I expect this might be the same way? Still am really wanting to know what's next. I see they already ok'd a second season of it.

I'd all ready read all of the released books before the show was even announced, so I never had a choice of watching the show first. That said, when it comes to film adaptations of books, I am usually more likely to enjoy both the movie and the book, if I watch the movie first. I can appreciate the movie for what it is, and then later I usually enjoy the increased depth of the books. If I read the book first, I usually end up disappointed in the movie, because of all of the changes.

In the case of GoT, it had been a long time since I read the books, especially the first one, so I am still able to enjoy the show.

If you have the patience to wait for the show, I think I'd recommend that, though it depends on how worried you are that you might be spoiled about something that happens in the later books.

Yeah, i'm going to wait to read the books. The limitation of movies is generally time. I know the first HP film was close to the book only becuase the book was not very long. As books went on the movies left more and more out. Can't be helped but if given a choice I would rather read the HP books then see the movies.

Favorite characters so far are the dwarf, the little girl and the wolves

i'm with you there...
but episodes 9-10
(MINI SPOILER !)

start showing the dwarf getting a bit too lucky (recognition by father, getting the best smart whore as a girlfriend..).
i liked him best when he was suffering the most...

Yes I agree. But something at the back of my mind is raising a red flag. You know the saying "If it seems too good to be true, then it usually is" (Or something like that). I just don't trust the father.

As far as the actor playing the dwarf...it's like the writer of the story had him in mind while he wrote it. He's a perfect fit (no pun intended).

you mean the father's just using him and so will the whore, right after he'll finally get emotionally attached to her? hmmm.. i think i like it, sir :)
in this case i guess i should go and buy them books to find out.
