Game of Thrones

Anybody watch last night? It's a fantasy series on HBO based on George Martin's Fire & Ice novels. It's without a doubt maybe the best looking television show I've ever seen. Outstanding production wise. The first episode was okay. A lot of scene setting. Seems like the story is just warming up, and considering the amount of characters involved, there is a lot of warming up to do. I'm fine with that. Rome didn't get going until 3 or 4 episodes in and then was awesome all the way to the finish. Spartacus as well didn't find it's footing for several episodes. Peter Dinklage is already a standout, and Mark Addy entertaining as the debauched King. Plenty of boobies too, although after Spartacus this show feels relatively chaste.

There was a shot where The King's loyal friend and his wife (don't know the names yet) were sitting by a little pond - I was actually thinking to myself "Wonder what this was shot on?" There was a huge range of light to dark in that scene, and the camera just ate it up and produced incredible detail. Thanks for the info.

Great show.
I watched 'The making of'... it definitely showed some ARRI film cameras, you could clearly see the film cannister.
Looks like their mixing digi & film.

I´m getting speed sickness from it. They´re burning through the book so fast there´s no time to enjoy the cast, sets or even the story... I love the books, but they should have adapted instead of copy pasted the first one.

I started to get that feeling with this episode, that they were leaping through the story a bit aggressively. It's feeling fragmented, like they're just checking off plot points. It's a gorgeous looking show but I'm still waiting for something amazing to happen that hasn't yet.

I just watched the first 3 episodes again back-to-back, and they are better that way.

It feels more like a really long feature film that has been cut into several pieces than an episodic TV show.

There just really isn't enough time in an hour to touch on all of the characters stories in a way that feels complete, but watched in continuity, it doesn't feel like it is moving too fast at all.

I dunno. I think it's okay, but it feels like HBO is doing that thing again where it has way too much soft core porn for no real purpose.

Felt the same way when they did that Spawn series years ago and every other line was some random profanity. Some of it seems unnecessary.

Maybe I'm jaded, because compared to Spartacus: Blood and Sand it's a G Rated movie.

There has been a lot of exposition, but the first episodes had good forward movement. This most recent episode seemed to stall, to me... more exposition, but they didn't really move any existing story lines forward, or introduce new ones.

Watched the first 2 eps and watchig the 3rd today. Absolutely loving it, can't wait to see more of the white walkers.

Just noticed that the brute guy who's bangin the white haired chick (whatever his name is?), anyway -- he's totally the guy playing Conan in the new Barbarian film.

If anything, HBO has toned down the sex from the books.

Quite a large percentage of it was shot 2 miles from me in an old shipyard paint shed used as an indoor set, I know a few who worked as extras on it.

I love it so far. I wish the tv series was named after the series of books ("A Song of Fire and Ice") - "Game of Thrones" kind of puts me off, not sure why. "A Song of Fire and Ice" is just so much more epic. Maybe even just "Fire and Ice" if they are into the whole brevity thing.
