Gain settings and S-LOG

I notice that the factory defaults on the F3 show Low, middle and high gain settings. (0,6,12)
Has anyone experimented with the results of changing the relationship of these three settings in coordination with S-LOG?
What would happen shooting 0,0,0 for instance?

If it was 0,0,0 then your camera would be a zero gain no matter where the switch is. That's pretty much what Electronic Indexing does. Except EI shows you the image with the gain in your monitor or view finder, but records at the optimal setting for the sensor. (EI is in the menu.)

I keep mine at 0, 3, 6.

With EI you apply gain in post for more accurate control and taking full advantage of the sensor's maximum capacity. Supposedly it gives you another stop of latitude. What I can say is that gain applied in post introduces less artifacts than electronic gain applied in camera. But then again every clip must be adjusted individually.

In theory its a nice feature. In practice I haven't needed it. I've shot in the woods at midnight with two small LED light panels and obtained good images because the F3 is pretty clean. Just keep in mind that light fall off is not linear.
