GH2 G5? Is this the GH3?

It does do 1080 50/60p @28mbps, which bodes well for the GH3 ( or whatever it will be called ). This was more or less a given, but inclusion in this means it will most likely be included as a minimum.

Yup, the G5 getting 1080/60p and a 920k screen hopefully means the GH3 gets those things as well. What else the GH3 gets to differentiate itself from this lower end model will be interesting to see. But so far these are two main things I wanted to see happen.

The GH3 will be a very interesting release for Panasonic. The GH2 is such a great camera for the price. They have an opportunity to make a very good camera even better or they can act like Canon and withold important attributes. The division that makes the GH2 seems to be on their own which is a good thing. So lets hope the GH3 is a hack-influenced step forward.

GH2 replacement?

Nope. The GH3 announcement isn't coming until Fall. Late August at the earliest, more likely mid-September. The GH3 is probably going to be shown at Photokina which runs 18-23 September. But really, who knows? Panasonic will announce it when it makes sense to Panasonic to announce it. So.... wait.

Unless they are going to really make it a great photo camera, they should have announced it at NAB. It's more video camera than stills camera to most of us.

Based on price of G5 vs G3, can pretty much guarantee a GH3 price increase. Although I would hope a 12-35 kit would be comparable to the Gh2 w 14-140.

I personally am hoping the GH3 + 35-100mm kit is the same price as a GH2 + 14-140mm kit. Wishful thinking I know.

Why on earth should they show a luxury consumer camera at a pro broadcaster convention? That would be like presenting a small sports car at a tractor show.

Yes, full manual controls

Yes, full manual controls

It has no manual controls for video... :D

"Movie Mode
The G5 shoots 1080p high-def video at 60p in the AVCHD 2.0 format, as well as 1080/30p video in MP4 format. Several lower-res modes are available as well. Full manual video controls are available, including PASM modes. There’s a dedicated movie record button on the top panel of the camera."

Actually..... They "showed" the GH2 at NAB 2012. They had a huge wall with all of their pro cameras and other gear (like switchers) and one of the cameras on the wall - dwarfed by everything else - was the GH2. They didn't feature it. They didn't talk about it. But they did have one sitting there next to everything else.

Nice. Didn't know. I've read in a spanish review that it has not.

Let's hope that your source is right and mine is wrong ;)

NAB is mostly for industry, not consumer, which is what Lumix is all about, consumers. That Panasonic has a separate professional video side means that the GH cameras will never make an amazing video leap in stock format.
