G-Master lenses

Allegedly, this is a new high end line of zooms in E-mount, including a 28-70mm F/2.8. The official announcement might come sometime around CP+. From the early rumors, Barbara Eden will not be participating (and neither will be Dr. Ruth Westheimer).

Jason Lanier (Sony's hired gun) waxes enthusiastically (but avoids the waxy skin) about the G-Master lenses

Weight. They're heavier then their dslr equivalent. A7x II gone heavier and bigger as well. Was that a Sony strategy to show at the beginning how small and compact they are to attract photographers and swap for e-mount?

From other interviews, it appears that G-Master is made for the next series of cameras that will appear later this year and into the next cycle. Their ultimate goal is an 8K Full Frame performance. Considering that A6300 already delivers a full readout of a 24 MPX sensor in a $1,000 body (yes, very much like NX1 from 2014 but way ahead of anyone else), I'd say they will have an A9 (or A99 .. or A9900 ... or something with a "9" but without a "6" in it) with those features soon.

Naturally, that camera will still have only 8-bit XAVC S, so not to compete with the rest of the Sony pro lineup.

All three of the new lenses are focus-by-wire, which rules them out for me. A shame, they're sharp and the falloff/bokeh is really tremendous.
I actually prefer fly by wire to the super short flimsy focus throw on the canon lenses I've used. I do prefer the longer focus throws like on the Samyang cine lenses (and even more so, proper cine lenses), obviously.
However, for me, many times there's such a time limit, and auto focus is essential. I've found that face detection with FS700/e-mount lenses work really well for shooting stage performances.
So to me e-mount lenses are great for those jobs when you're pressed on time etc. For other stuff I prefer semi- or proper cine glass.
What I'm really allergic to is shaky footage. That's why I want a 2.8 24-70 with OSS and auto focus. Guess I have to keep waiting :(

An early review by Tony Northrup.
That Tony can't take a good picture if his life depended on it it seems. His pics with those lenses from that event are just awful. There other pictures by other photographers from the same event that look great. Once again shows that the person behind the camera is as important as the gear...

Well, Tony's not my master but he really loves the new 24-70 (especially with A6300 and A7RII).

Stu Maschwitz just posted a review of the GM lenses (24-70 and 85mm) over here. It's very, very positive. The 85mm review is probably going to cost me some $$$$ eventually (this is all he said about it: "Yeah. This is a lens. My review: I will be buying one.").
