FZ1000 or LX100?

If audio is a non-issue, which do you think? I wouldn't mind the added dof control from the LX, but the FZ1000 seems to be a more video-specific rig. Everyone is talking about it being a GH4 backup, which is exciting for a video newb like me bc I could taste the "pro" stuff without the added money. Not seeing a lot of discussion here on the forum about this camera, which is surprising considering how impressive it seems. Thanks

I've had the FZ1000 for a few weeks now and certainly have no complaints with the images it produces. There are a few negatives I've found, the biggest to me being the manual focus. It has a smooth quite focus ring but you have to turn the ring too fast to engage it making it almost useless for me. The auto focus is very fast and accurate but occasionally loses focus for a split second.

There is no stabilization in 4K and it's really needed on this cam. Need to be on sticks in 4K, especially if zoomed in. Stabilization works great in 1080 if you set cam to panning.

Very noisy so off cam mics needed. You do have audio adjustments and visual monitoring but no headphone jack.
I have a FZ200 also and because of the FZ1000 manual focus issue I tend to use it more for video and the FZ1000 for photos. Maybe with more practice I can get it to be more useable. It does propduce great photos.

Considering the cost the positives outweigh the negatives. Really need to fix that focus ring.

No stabilization in 4K? Mine stabilizes just fine in 4K.

Spec-wise, the FZ1000 is probably the better all-rounder due to it's huge zoom, I would expect IQ to be about the same. The LX100 is likely better in low-light due to larger sensor, but it lacks Cine-D/V profiles (could be added in firmware). All things equal it comes down to size and lens. Personally I would go with FZ1000, it's hard enough being confused as a photographer instead of a videographer (at events), with an LX100 you'd be confused with a tourist.

Mega OIS works in 4K, do not see a problem.

If you want something to put in your shirt pocket then LX100. If you need good range Zoom then FZ1000.

Function and picture quality wise, both are of very near to the GH4. FZ1000 is something you can use for few years and keep it as a spare even if you buy another more expensive camera.

I am using it as a spare for my Canon 1DC see the comparison below (1DC + 70-200L 2.8 II), I took them at the same time both hand held( left hand + right hand) at max zoom range ISO1600 1/100 wide open IS-on
Please note there is a 10+ times price difference between the 2 sets of equipment though.

I am really happy with my FZ1000 pal , just miss having the 60fps and 120 fps in 1080p that ntsc gives.

Obviously i cant get full quality at 1770mm but i am happy with the long range footage my FZ1000 gives me.

That's a VERY cool vid! What river??

What tele-converter did you use?

Edit:
Has the internal mic noise issue been resolved?
Any idea if this cam will auto trigger the new BM Video Assist recorder?

thanks for posting
