FS7: FX9 success?

Wow, the white FX9 shown on the Vocas site made me flash back to the days of white Sony cameras...

Wow, the white FX9 shown on the Vocas site made me flash back to the days of white Sony cameras...

I was working occasionally with a film studio back in the late 1980's when they were very reluctantly being dragged into Betacam. They didn't like the way their cameras looked and didn't want to be associated with "video" so they stripped them down and sent all the exterior parts to be powder coated matte black. Looked pretty good, but very expensive just for the sake of vanity.

At least they didn't glue a 400' mag on the top.

Now that you mention it, I'm not so sure they didn't. :-)
One of the guys I was working with went on to join the ASC, so who am I to second-guess his pimping the camera? Maybe not being associated with "video" was the key to his whole success.

The ! is only telling you ,you are using a FF lens in s35 mode... .. .. but it is a setting thats best used for shooting HFR 100fps /120fps only.... (50/60 fps 4K s35..) why are you shooting 2k .. you have a FF lens on .. shoot FF6K scan ..HD.. a ,lovely down sampled image .. alot of people are complaining without understanding the scan modes .. or reading the manual :)

why are you shooting 2k .. you have a FF lens on :)
- did not say I was shooting in this mode - these are my findings when S35 was selected (the lens happened to be attached)

Doug Jensen "There's nothing wrong with the S35 mode because I have used it without issue. You are doing something wrong."
---- Good to know, afa as something wrong - the mode is just selected and the noise appeared - to be clear I have not invested shooting a set up in this mode as it seemed too risky.
Doug Jensen/Mantas "dont shoot s35 2k mode... that's why it's "unusable" maybe?"
---- I was NOTING the exclamation mark answer - TY

In summary - I like the camera, waiting on Firmware.

Fair enough .. but it seemed as though you were about to..you could have mentioned that.. any 2K setting is not great .. s35 4K is totally fine.. same as the f5/55 .. the only reason to shoot in 2K mode is for HFR .. because you have to.. a 50/60 5K scan mode is promised in V2.. and higher rates in s35 4K.. but people are selecting 2K thinking they need to be in that mode to shoot HD.. where as you can be in 6K scan mode and shoot HD..

Where do people come up with this stuff? I don't have to use the 2K mode on my F55 for HFR. 90% of what I shoot with my F55 is 4K @120 fps and I never use the 2K mode.

You have to use 2K crop mode OR.. 2K scan for 120fps no..? on the f5/55.. I have used 2K scan on the f5/55 120 fps to keep the lenses FOV when Ive needed it .. otherwise yes crop mode is preferable .. so I think what I said is correct and you have posted in haste .. the problem is fx9 only has crop mode to 4K .. not 2K like the f55..
