FS7: FX9 success?

After some years with little activity in this subforum, its now swamped with new threads about basic equipment.

Is this an indicator of the FX9 success since alot of FS7s have swapped hands since new years?

It's like the same 20 people interacting here, but there's no doubt it will be one of the most successful cameras of the year along with the C500 Mark II [even with its higher price tag].

I would suggest that most people got the hang of the FS7 after owning for a few years. Meaning less traffic.

Now the Fx9 is showing its design flaws in the fact that it needs to be talked about.

Eg. Does af work in S+Q ? Its not a question one should have to ask.

Great camera at a ridiculously low price.. needs a couple of FW updates as all new camera seem to these days ..

I want one too.

Still debating Canon 500 II for native Canon lens support tho. Only have 1 Sony lens and not getting more.

In theory it should, but I haven't gotten a straight answer yet as to whether its IQ is as good as the 18-110 or whether its as reliably par focal.. I tried one that wasn't but it had other problems . Any input from people who've used both would be appreciated. I know the zoom control is more fly by wire on the 28-135.

Having used both the 28-135 and 18-110, I’m curious what the real draw would be towards using the 28-135 vs simply shooting in S35 mode with the 18-110

To me the FX9 breathes new life into the 28-135. I originally bought that lens way back when to be used w my FS700 but unfortunately for many reasons (mostly all well documented) it didn't pair real well. I then got the fs7 w/ the 18-110 and for a lot of the type of shooting i was doing, outside of interviews, it became the go to lens...with the 28-135 used on very rare occasions. Then along comes the FX9 with its full frame, much better auto focus and improved lens response via the rocker its now the 18-110 sitting in the case. I've been shooting a ton of exterior stuff since i got the FX9 and the only two lenses i've been using are the 28-135 and the 70-200. I've been very pleased with the images so far. I have not done side by sides with the 28 & 18 lenses and probably won't and the 28 seems to be about as par focal as one would expect...your mileage may vary.

I just shot all of SB week with the 28-135. The only time I changed to the 24-70 or 70-200 was in non run and gun situations like a stand up or a tight shot for an interview. Otherwise, the 28-135 has an invaluable little feature when pairs with the FX9 and that’s the AF/MF focus ring. Many times the AF will go crazy and you will need to override the AF. With the ring you simply slide it back and kill the AF instantly, and once you’re back in an ideal AF situation just slide it back. All just muscle memory. With the photo lenses you have that tight switch on the side which is awkward to reach when you’re handheld and will shake the image if you’re recording.

Maybe when Sony releases those new ff cine lenses, I’ll go with the 24-70 version if it includes the sliding focus ring. I really saw that thing as being useless when I used the 18-110 on the FS7, but now that I’m incorporating more AF it is essential.
