FW Direct To Mac?

My apologies if this has been covered.

Can one shoot directly to a Mac or MacBook via Firewire?

yes, but you will need to capture the video streaming to the mac using a program such as Final Cut Pro.
 
And you must shoot in a non-native mode, i.e. a standard DV framerate with redundant frames included in the data stream.
 
And if you set the Capture Now settings to do the pulldown, you'll end up with native 24p footage, anyway.
 
Believe it or not iMovie can do this automatically but you'd have to save each clip as a quicktime and export it into FCP, so it would be better to just do it through FCP if there's a setting for it (which I'm sure there is). I normally don't do DTE because I'm on a desktop and don't have a powerful enough laptop (I still use a G3 for screenwriting and internet).
