FS7: FW 4.01 is here for download

hmmm... interesting. Is it just a language translation perhaps... or does anyone else find it odd that the Sony page says "Phenomenon that clip is shot different form user setting gamma occasionally is improved."
I haven't had this phenomenon occur in my camera, but if I did, I would want it fixed or corrected, not improved.

Im sure its translation .. wow when will Sony actually get a native speaker to do their English stuff.. many years ago I bought a 400AP..at huge expense.. and the English manual at least 40% was totally nonsensical ..

This is the company that on their f800, when displaying the counter on the viewfinder/Test Out, changed the abbreviation from CTL (Control track?) to CNT. I don't know how many producers I've had who think the camera is swearing at them.

per that Sony link posted by op:

Contents of update

1. Operability of low speed zoom by handle zoom button is improved.
2. Phenomenon that clip is shot different form user setting gamma occasionally is improved.
3. Overall stability and operability of the camera is improved.

So is that all this firmware does?

Yup, that's all. BUT, if you end up with a REC709 LUT slapped onto an important clip by your FW3.0 FS7, and you happened to have over-exposed by a stop in Slog, then I reckon you might well kick yourself once or twice for not upgrading! ;-)

We live in hope for more significant, requested FW fixes/upgrades, but well, that's hope for you!

Agreed. I almost always find out about the updates here... so appreciate it when folks post it. The Sony community seems to have zero participation from Sony employees.

Has anyone noticed any improvment in "Overall stability and operability of the camera"?

I'm one of those guys who immediately downloads the latest upgrades before I even know what they do. Like Apple OS, it's not a matter of "if" but more like "when" you'll do the upgrade. Haven't seen any blurbs about what the upgrade is about but according to MarkPV, not much has been improved, though stability is an interesting term. My camera is pretty stable and having the ability to "creepy crawly" the fly by wire Sony zooms was not on my list of things that needed improving. Though I will admit the few times I have gone with a Sony lens, being able to do a slow zoom might have been appealing. I'll test and see how that works. Not being able to "feather" the zoom is more of an issue IMO!

Allister Chapman sent out a message recommending this update. I've installed it and not noticed any differences, but the camera is at least up to date.

Am I buggin out or does FS7 with FW 4.1 handle power differently? I've been using my FS7 with XDCA and IDX Endura Duo V-mount batteries. While these don't communicate with the body like some other batteries (for example FS7 shows Anton Bauer Digital series as percentage rather that voltage) I could swear that the camera was still warning user when voltage was dropping below certain point. Am I making it up, can someone who is still on previous versions confirm it? It seems that now there is no warning at all and the camera simply shuts down abruptly whenever there is not enough juice.

I can verify tomorrow, but i'm 99% sure you are correct. I use the FS7 with XDCA and SWITRONIX V mount (XPL 90-s) and i definitely think it warns of low voltage. (edit: i have 4.0 firmware, to be clear, and have not updated yet)

That sounds pretty annoying if the update accidentally messed that bit up.

Assumed you've checked this part in the menu? Perhaps it just got reset with the update? If I recall, you are able to set the point at when the warning will alert.

Plus, with my SWIT v-mount batteries, the leaflets says specifically which voltages should be set (for warning and for switching off).
