FS5: FW 2.0 out today

I’ve questions for Mitch.
  1. Can the 7Q+ can record Prores simultaneously to both SSD?
  2. For 2x anamorphic, is it possible, from the FS5/7/700, getting only the 4:3 portion of the picture and record it. Hopefully my question is understandable.
1. We do not record duplicate copies to both SSDs at this time. We have announced that this will be a feature in our upcoming firmware update, but for now it is only for Apollo Multi-Stream in Quad-HD mode.
2. The Odyssey anamorphic modes are for desqueeze monitoring only. It is much better to record the complete original signal and do the extraction in post. That said, we do have an anamorphic desqueeze setting that allows the user to view only the center 4:3 extraction area, thereby yielding the appropriate image area. This section of the image is also zoomed to best fill the OLED display.

The O7Q is amazing, great, stupendous, but it's just tooooo big for the FS5. The FS5 is intended as a small, quick, lightweight handheld camera. We need an O5Q! Use one of the 5" smartphone screens that must be available, shrink the SSD/media and batteries a bit, and give us cable jack positioning and cables (right-angle/low-profile, etc) that let us keep the cabling out of the way.

The 7Q/7Q+ seems to be the most versatile recorder if you want to get all recording options that the FS5/7/700 can deliver.
I have a Shogun, I purchased it base on specs that were not delivered when the product arrived on the market. Even now, still not able to get CDNG with the Shogun. You always have to wait for firmware update for the promised functions.
Let’s face it, Atomos doesn’t target professional camera users. They target a different market segment.
As a new FS5 user, I’d like getting a 7Q+ in 5inch from factor, even I only get Prores from the raw.
At the end, it’s impossible to come-out with a product that satisfy everyone needs.

Are you talking about the old Shogun, or the new Shogun Flame?

I'm talking about the original Shogun, not the flame. I understood except the screen refresh, the flame as the same hardware as the "old" Shogun.

Fine to learn that at least Samsung SSDs can be used. That makes the prices more reasonsble.

And yes, for UHD the FS5 offers 8bit 420 only by HDMI but also internal what is a shame, beside Sony raw.

And you are rigth - Atomos has promised the CDNG feature earlier an it is still not available yet, even not for the first Shogun. I do not care about the customer segment they focus to, but that is a fact that we still wait for that feature.

This article mentions this concerning the Inferno recording CNDG, and the Shogun Flame.

• Raw to Raw CDNG recording up to 4K DCI/UHD 30p or 2K/HD 120p. CDNG support will also be added to existing Shogun Flame, Shogun and Shogun Studio products a month after the launch of the Inferno.

So it looks like that is coming in the Inferno,, then the SHogun Flame a month later.
