FS5: FW 2.0 out today

Of Course, you have to re-enter all of you settings/button customizations and profiles. What fun!

Nice new features! I still find it very strange that we have to pay for the RAW format recording as it's just a software key.

Back in the days with the Fs700 it was fine to pay as it was a hardware upgrade... but a paid software key... come on Sony!

What does the headphone thing do? I would rather be able to plug the mic into Input 2 and be able to feed it to both channels. As it is we have to plug into Input 1 on the back of the camera if we want audio to go to both channels. I hate having the cable stretch to the back of the camera.

Sony designed it that way so you can release the top handle and be able to input a mic on the body.

I too would like the option to use either XLR and be able to go to both channels.

Yeah I understand why the placed the xlr inputs where they did, but there's no reason not to have the option of putting the signal in both channels for both channels. Should just be a FW tweak. Oh Sony, your engineer driven decisions have baffled me again.

Agreed.

Im hoping these little things can be tweaked in future firmwares. I'd also like to see the base ISO of Slog 2 & 3 lowered if possible too.

According to the Vortex Media training that base ISO is pretty much an atbitrary number. When you switch it to show gain instead of ISO, it's 0db gain.

Hi Chad, Iam using gain set to display and not ISO, and from my understanding 0db gain in Slog2/3 = 3200 ISO ?

Thats my understanding.

The base ISO changes depending on what setting. I think it's 1000 for S-Log but I don't use ISO. No matter what the base ISO is on a particular setting, that number is equivalent to 0db gain, so if one setting's base is 800 and another's is 3200, they both mean 0db gain, so don't worry about the ISO umber. Just know that 0db is the cleanest. Set your switch to be 0, +6, and +12db. Keep it at 0 unless you absolutely need more gain/iso.

A friend of mine accidentally skipped FW 1.1 and went straight to 2.0. Will that still include the 1.1 update that fixes the XAVC tearing fix?

Of course. Just did the same thing today. Any new firmware has all the previous firmware updates included. Now where is our RAW upgrade?
