C100: Funny short I shot with the C100/Hyperdeck Shuttle 2

"Do you mind if I use your restroom to yell at my crotch?"

First of all, congratulations on your short! I think every aspect of it, acting, cinematography, editing, casting (the waiter, what a face) suits the script so well, it's tight and I really enjoyed it. No technical thing or flaw or whatever you may want to call it drew me out of the story which is amazing, it's what every filmmaker wants. So, I am looking forward to your next film.

I have to ask a couple technical things. You mentioned that the 8 bit gave you a hard time in post. Do you think you would shoot those problematic banding scenes differently now that you know the camera a little bit better and thus avoid it or is it a plain restriction or the colour space? And also, how much of a fuss was removing pulldown later? That's all.

Kudos again. Keep the crew you worked with on that short close!

Thanks Homey for the kind words, I will relay the message to the Director/Writer, editor, and actors! As for keeping the crew close, a majority of us work on shorts together quite often. I'd say every time we do a short 80-90% of the crew is the same as the last time. We all like working together, and we try to keep the set fun.

As for your technical questions: Yes in hind sight I could shoot it differently, but that would mean less gradation and less contrast with the lights. This would change the feel of the film, so I'd probably just deal with the banding in post and not change the lights for the most part. As you can see, we kept it to a minimum as best as we could. Michael is a great colorist, he was just at NAB working for Blackmagic Design showing off Davinci Resolve 10. You can see him in several NAB video's out there explaining it. As for removing the pulldown, it really wasn't too bad. It was just an extra step that took time. I made a Compressor droplet and I just dragged the files on top of it. I did most of it over night while I slept. Like I said it was a small issue not really a large one.

I see. Working with a team that has good chemistry really works then. Thanks Brian, keep up the good work!
