Fully Loaded Red Camera Pic

RED has stated that their intention is to make the LCD detachable and remountable to other locations on the camera system - such as the cage, etc. Everything is subject to change, but that would be a great feature of the LCD if it is indeed made that way.

yes a modular lcd is a great idea.. not only for placement options but for upgrading options.. size, resolution, etc. If a year down the road they come out with a better LCD you can just buy the upgrade.

Danny,

See...creative thinkers will often arrive at the same conclusion. Your LCD suggestion was a good one that was arrived at earlier by the RED designers, but not widely publicized. In fact, it was one of the original tech specs suggested at the spec meetings for the RED camera last year. With the RED camera having so many potential configurations, and with the cage having so many hardpoints to mount accessories, it made great sense to plan a detachable screen for flexibility in use and configuration.

Keep in mind that the screen may or may not be an LCD. It could be SED, LCoS, or other technology. Also, the camera system is a work in progress, and specs could change before they are finalized. Hopefully the concept of a detachable and re-mountable screen will survive the design process.

"creative thinking" or "inventors state of mind" which is in fact a very serious mental disease.:dankk2:

Great job!

It looks like a real kick-ass camera. As others have said, it just needs to be easy to carry and look through. Shoulder mount, eye cup, and all the things that'll make it easy to use.
