Fully Functional Steadicam

I needed a steadicam ASAP so I got with my business partner and told him to come up with something for me.

What he came up with was actually a pretty simple idea that works great.

I'll attach photos below and I have a video uploading.

Yes, it's a modified guitar stand.

We call it the R and B Steadicam (Russell & Brad), and yes, the pun is intended.

Yeah, I got busted on the title on a different site.

The intention was for a steadicam that wound up being a shoulder mount.

:)

hah! and you thought you could sneak it in here. tsk tsk.

How is the guitar standing holding up anyway? I know the "handle" you have there is the guitar support, but it also twists into place. Is that steady and secure enough?

It wasn't intended to be a stand. That's why you see the legs in the video. It just worked out that way.

And yes, it's very sturdy.

You can even lay it down flat on both of the braces and it works great too.

I got my LANC controller installed today and it also works well with this setup. My shotgun mic kills the convenience of the stand though.

Your footage reminds me of a first-person shooter. Like Halo.

Now I can cycle between grenade, knife, plasma rifle and guitar stand.

Sweet!

Nice gear! I have an HMC150, Canon xTi and a Canon 7D. We're almost twinkies.

lol

lol, thanks. You too... I have been debating on getting the 7D or saving up for another HMC150... you find it hard to match 7d and hmc footage?

I have never tried. I do mostly commercial shooting so they each have their own individual functions.

I'll be shooting a music video next weekend with this rig and will post the Vimeo link when it's completed.

Looking good. More of a shoulder rig system than a steadicam. ;) But who cares. Generic terms seem to be in ;)
