Fujinon TV Zoom for GH1?

I have read the few threads on using fujinon TV zooms with Nikon teleconverters on a GH1. Their discussion have slowly died down, and those of us who are interested in building our own are still left with many questions.

Here are some of my questions. Hopefully someone who have tried it would come forward and share some valuable experience.

1) Between 1/2" and 2/3" zoom lenses, which type is preferable? My first thinking was to go with the 2/3", which as a larger image circle. But I've also seen someone (brianwu) who used a 1/2" zoom. He needs to use an extension tube behind the teleconverter in order to create a large enough image circle to cover the sensor. I don't know if that is necessary for a 2/3" lens.

2) Let's say I'm going for a 2/3" lens. Is there a limit in how wide the wide end can be? ie. Would a 8 - 80mm lens more prone to vignette than a 10-100mm lens, given they are both 2/3" lens?

3) Any particular model of TV zoom that you have tried and would recommend?

Hi,

I adapted 2 Canon TV zoom lenses(2/3), and had to machine different adapters for wide and tele.

2/3" is better than 1/2", but if you need wide or ultra wide-angle there will be problems. I don't think there is a perfect solution with only one adapter or converter for superzoom range. Because extension tubes will change the flange focal length and cause problems when focusing. With a teleconverter you will lose light, wide and often image quality, but no problems with zoom/focus.

I built the adapters for friends who use 2 GH1 for their Web-TV project. The first zoom lens has the wide-angel setup, the other can zoom in for close ups.

I have to admit I'm not a pro engineer, and maybe someone got the perfect solution to adapt those great c-Mount zoom lenses to MFT.

Regards

wocag: So with a 2/3" lens, I don't need extension tube at all? How do I determine the distance between the TV zoom lens to the teleconverter, and from the teleconverter to the body? With the back focus adjustment on the zoom lens and the teleconverter, does such distances still matter?

I'm looking for a setup that will give me a resultant lens that is ~14 or 15mm to 80-ish mm and f2.8

Any particular lens to recommend?

thanks for sharing your experience.

Absolutely not.

The lens I am talking about is this one.

Super8: Can you specify why the lens I referred to on ebay won't work with the GH1 with teleconverter? I am still not very clear about the mechanism behind the TV zoom + teleconverter and the calibration between these parts.
