Fujifilm launches MK series of cinema lenses with 18-55mm T2.9 and 50-135mm T2.9

Fujifilm has announced a pair of 'MK' Super 35 cinema lenses for Sony's E-mount, with a 18-55mm T2.9 launching next month, followed by a 50-135mm T2.9 arriving this summer. In addition to the E-mount versions, which are designed for Super 35 or APS-C sensors, Fujifilm will be releasing the same lenses for X-mount by the end of the year.

Both lenses are exactly the same size – 85mm tall and 206mm long – and each weighs 980 g. They also share the same front diameter (85mm), filter diameter (82mm), number of aperture blades (9) and gear ring location. As you might imagine, the rings handle iris, zoom and focus distance. In addition, the flange distance can be adjusted for use on different cameras.

The lenses are designed to reduce focus point shift, lens breathing and optical axis shifts. The minimum object distance is 0.85m for the 18-55 and 1.2m for the 50-135, with macro functions bringing those numbers down to 0.38m and 0.85m, respectively.

As mentioned above, the 18-55mm T2.9 will be first out of the gate next month, with a list price of $3799. Pricing for for 50-135mm T2.9 was not announced.

B&H lists same price for both...50-135mm expected in the summer. Although I feel like every lens that has been announced since last year seems to have been delayed.

EF mount is crippled by having space for a flapping vistavision sized mirror.

It is completely unsuited to S35 motion picture applications.

Perhaps. But then nearly all the mfg's of motion picture camera's have adapted it on their latest cameras...

Thus kippering themselves to only accepting poor lens designs and making lenses like the ones in this thread not optically possible.

The trouble is that Mr Black Tragic and Mr Jannard are sort of newbs in basica understanding optical geometry. Panny just got suckered by a few bloggers who 'helped' them develop the Varicam.

Don't forget - Even Arri made EF an option on the Amira - which granted, is aimed at the doc community more than the "film" community.
I'm not disagreeing with you - have just found it quite interesting is all (especially the Vari). Fuji coming out with these lenses and maybe Ange's EZ series zooms is a welcomed shift for those of us on the e mount currently without PL glass.

EF is the dominant lens mounting and having EF as an option is economically feasible, whatever other side effects it may cause. This is a huge step toward the "mirrorless world". One has to wonder what new cameras Sony will have at the NAB'17.

BTW, there a bunch of videos about 18-55 already on YouTube. The early testers have had it for a while.

Why are the focus marks on the same side of the lens both ends of the ring?
I hope this is a proto mistake and they will move the fronts to the other side...

I really don't want to name the manufacturer on a public forum but I just tried one of these newly released "affordable" zooms and the build quality felt completely sub-par. As if it will be in the shop after every rental. Would not consider traveling with it at all.

I hope this is not the case with the Fuji's. If they're robust, indeed, they may be GC's.

I tested the 18-55 a couple weeks for where I used to work.

It's nice. It's a little plasticky. I wouldn't want to drop. But then again, I don't think I'd want to drop any lens.

All the rings have good, really smooth action to them. It's super light weight. On the FS7 Mark II it locked in perfectly. Solid as a rock. No need for a lens support.

It's freakin sharp. It's just really nice.

Freaking sharp? With the canon cine primes I think they are too sharp for the fs7 and tend to bring out purple fringing - did you see that?
