Fujifilm X-T4 camera rumored specifications : 6k60p video and 10-bit internal

As an owner of an Alexa Classic, the only reason I chose to occasionally shoot RAW is for the resolution/sharpness bump, but otherwise Prores 444 is more than adequate and not terrible differently looking than a RAW file. However, I recently shot a short fashion film with both the Alexa and the X-T3 fed out to a Ninja V with Prores 422HQ (FLOG) and I was surprised to find a better seperation of tones on the Fuji than the Alexa. I was using the MKX lenses against my Cooke 20-100 and the Fuji definitely won in terms of sharpness, contrast, etc. However, where it fell down was the rendering of certain colors and of course the DR in the highlights (but the Fuji still had highlight detail, just not as much). The reds on the Alexa were excellent. Perfect. The fuji reds were a bit orange and needed a secondary correction and this is where the value of 444 was really missed.

Interesting. Considering the cost of the X-T3 and the ridiculously small size, it does punch way above it's weight class for sure. If you are able to post or have posted this piece, it would be really interesting to see.

I think the combo of 10-bit with a better compression scheme is the key. I don't think RAW is the only way to get there though. This year I'm shooting everything with my XT-3. Now, I'm not the super picky type, as I was mostly happy with C200 150mbps, but didn't feel I could push it as much as I wanted. And the Sony's were certainly very bit-starved at 100mbps. On the XT-3 shooting H.265 10-bit at 400kbps is all I feel I need. And it's still considerably less than C200 RAW light. Plus, I can switch to 200mbps for interviews where I tend to use very little on-screen, but eats up tons of space. Not everyone has the storage space concerns I do though.

Let us see some of the footage you are shooting Brett when you can, I bet you are shooting some beautiful stuff.

Will do. There are some other things that I can see. The Fuji is sharper. However, it also has some aliasing. So my sense is that the softness on the Alexa has something to do with their aliasing filter. It's either that or the Cooke. But we did shoot the latter at around f5.6, so in theory it should be pretty solid.

Very interesting, thanks.
I didn't mean only RAW can be good enough, what I meant was that 10-bit with a weak codec will not cut it anymore for me. Sounds like the Fuji codec is good, I'll give it a try if I get the chance.

This one looks great. No crazy resolution claims, but improvements in areas that actually make a difference when you are shooting, like IBIS and the improved face/eye detect. Let's see how it pans out.

That's not a bad spec list. Dual card recording and 240fps FHD, if it looks as good as the present 120 fps would actually be useful and impressive.
Unfortunately there will still be some major day to day operational issues for video users like micro HDMI out, 29:59 and 19:59 clip limits, No F-Log REC 709 LUT for viewing,
plastic 3.5mm headphone jack instead of metal.

Huge AF improvement has my ear, but I'll believe it when I see it. The FX9 AF I have been using all last week
was REALLY great, if Fuji and Canon can begin to approach that quality, that would be amazing.
IBIS, hopefully it will be good, once again if it approaches the level used on the GH5, that would be major.

All in all, it looks like the X-T4 will be a pretty nice mirrorless camera.

There is F-log view assist function in X-T4:

And the F-Log View Assist function has been added to correct low-saturation / low-contrast video while recording F-Log. Video is converted equivalent to BT.709 for display to make it easier to attain correct exposure in video recording.

One feature I would so love to see future cameras utilize - if their sensor allows them to - is burst technology.

Offer high framerates in 4K for a few seconds.

4K/120p for 10 seconds, 4K/240p for 5 seconds...and you'd have over a minute of slow-motion at a higher-quality.

Truth is, the 1080p slow-motion is rarely good enough, besides for close-ups. It's soft and the difference is always prominent. Sony offers this with their FS5/RAW combo and some of their P&S cameras (those in HD).

and USB-C connection for headphones so you can take off 3.5mm plastic connector off your list. but darn micro HDMI. If there is internal 422 10 bit then not as important I guess since I wouldn't be using an external recorder.

Personally, I would like to see 17:9 output and 4K DCI over HDMI. Curently stuck in 16:9 and UHD for the Ninja V
BUT most of all, GET RID OF rec601 mismatch issues over HDMI. Tired of crushed blacks and improper contrast.

Micro hdmi is a deal killer for me.

I had to send my xt3 back for a replacement.

it is way too fragile for a production environment.

Yeah, it really sucks. Same thing happended on my original Pocket Cinema Camera, even with an HDMI lock attached. Is an external viewing monitor recommended for the XT-3?

The BMPCC had it soldered onto the entire board inside. IIRC, they used to RMA/replace the entire camera very early on and then stopped doing that as it probably wasn't too feasible long-term.

Did they provide you with a new camera or said non-fixable?

It was non-fixable.

The bigger battery and ibis are nice, but I see basically no reason to upgrade from the X-T3 for video work.

So, that last list that I liked was the real deal. Nice.

A few questions in case anybody can play with the XT4:
- Are there crops in any modes? 2k HFR modes I'm looking at you
- Does eye-detect AF work in video mode? And does it stick to the subject well enough? The XT3 debacle is worrying: having something that works and breaking it with a non-reversible firmware "upgrade" is... not nice.

And for current XT3 owners:
Will I be able to work with the H265 codec directly in Resolve, or is transcoding still mandatory? I have a ryzen with 64GB of RAM and an nvidia 2060super with 8GB of RAM.
Maybe the easiest thing here would be for me to download a few clips and play with them, there must be plenty shared online, let's see if I can have time for that this weekend...
