Fujifilm X-T4 camera rumored specifications : 6k60p video and 10-bit internal

And for current XT3 owners:
Will I be able to work with the H265 codec directly in Resolve, or is transcoding still mandatory? I have a ryzen with 64GB of RAM and an nvidia 2060super with 8GB of RAM.
Maybe the easiest thing here would be for me to download a few clips and play with them, there must be plenty shared online, let's see if I can have time for that this weekend...

Find out whether your machine/gpu allows for hardware accelerated encoding/decoding of h265 video. That's what makes the difference.

My old Mac Pro 5,1 (12-core, 64GB RAM, 12GB Titan X) could not even begin to playback 400Mbps X-T3 footage. But my new Mac Pro 5,1 (should have been a 7,1... long story) which has a pair of Radeon VIIs with a software modification that allows the Radeon VII to activate hardware encoding/decoding of h264/h265 - can edit, playback and render that same nightmare h265 footage like butter.

I have learned over the years, if they do not lead with it, the feature is probably not in the camera. No internal 10bit 4:2:2 and no mention of crops or 30 min. time limits. There was a weird wobble/warp in the DPReview footage like electronic stabilization instead of IBIS. The still images look fantastic and Jordan did mention the AF as being very good. Jordan also mentioned something about the door being open to a video centric model. That might be conjecture or maybe a hint. They have some great raw material here. It would be very compelling if Fuji decided to lean in on their video features.

I see the XT-4 as a better stills camera than a GH6 when it arrives. If Fuji could step up to a GH-series user experience and specs (full sized HDMI, more codec girth, exposure tools and video buttons), I would lean towards the Fuji. 2020 is looking to be a great year for hybrid cameras. Waiting to see what Canon and Panny have to offer.

So, that last list that I liked was the real deal. Nice.

A few questions in case anybody can play with the XT4:
- Are there crops in any modes? 2k HFR modes I'm looking at you
- Does eye-detect AF work in video mode? And does it stick to the subject well enough? The XT3 debacle is worrying: having something that works and breaking it with a non-reversible firmware "upgrade" is... not nice.

1.18x in 4K 60P, 1.29x in FHD 120/240P

There's an option to enable a 1.29x crop in ALL recording modes.

Eye-AF works in video mode (except 240P), it claims to have improved over X-T3.

^ Thanks!

Not too happy about those crops, though...
1.18x turns the 1.52x original crop factor into 1.79x, which is much closer to m43 than to APS-C.

The 1.18x crop applied when shooting 4K 60 is likely due to sensor limitations, as the sensor isn't capable of doing a full sensor readout at 60fps. The X-T3 had the same crop and this 4K 60 limitation also affected the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K (which is likely using the same sensor).

One other note is that the new digital image stabilization (DIS) feature, if enabled, imposes an additional 10% crop as well.

There's a table showing the different video crop factors about midway down the page here:

There is a 20 minute time limit when shooting 4K 50/60 and a 30 minute time limit in other video modes. The 240 fps HD mode has a 3 minute time limit (or 6 minutes if shooting 120 fps HD).

Internal recording is still 10-bit 4:2:0 when recording HEVC/H.265 and 10-bit 4:2:2 output is only possible over HDMI.

Have watched the video reviews and read the first articles.

My whinging list
Still have the recording limits
Taking away the 3.5mm headphone jack is a bummer
Still no video waveform
Still with the micro HDMI?? Ah jeez
Crops - duh, of course they have cropping, which cameras don't? The FX9 has all kinds of cropping limitations. Simple, use a wider lens if you shoot in crop modes all of the time. I have found the 1.18X on the X-T3 to be no big deal.
Reading Johnnie over at Cinema 5D's review, he is reporting the focusing twitch is still there when shooting FLog in low light?!? WTH?

My like list
IBIS seems like a winner, better than the X-H1 although not as good as the standard bearer GH5, but they'll eventually get there
Flippy screen - meh, whatever. I have the 80D laying around that has it, but I was fine with the X-T3 screen too. If you Vlog, why not just buy a used GH5?
Bigger battery seems like a winner
Dual card recording! Yay!
REC709 monitoring when shooting F-Log - Good on ya!
240 fps FHD - Nice but have heard multiple reports that it's soft and mushy. Guess that's to be expected, although the 120 fps on the X-T3 is at least usable

Overall, it seems like a good camera, positive movement forward. I'm keeping my X-T3 but I might buy an X-T4 as a second small camera possibly late this year?
I have a hard time deciding, our C200 shooting RAW is still noticeably better quality than the X-T3 shooting F-Log but the X-T3 is amazingly capable as a
B cam or gimbal cam or for shoots where we need to stay small and light/travel shoots. I'd like to buy a 100-400mm lens, hard to decide if I will buy a Canon
for the C200/C300 MKII or buy the Fuji for the X-T3. Work and money flow will dictate all of this, have been renting both the Canon and Fuji 100-400 lenses for
a few things here and there and I like both lenses.

Probably not buying anything unless some new projects dictate that I need to, gotta keep the GAS under control!

Actually its piped through the USB-C connector instead. An adapter for 3.5mm jacks to usbc is provided. So its really not a big deal.

It is a big deal as it was something the X-T3 HAD that they took AWAY.

I don't like to have to rely on dongles to use something that used to be there.

Ask any modern MBP user or iPhone user, dongles SUCK! That said, when I shoot the X-T3,
I would never use in-camera audio so for me, personally, not a big factor. But I still hate that they
pulled an Apple and took it away.

More importantly, the micro HDMI remains, which is the most garbage video connection in the history of digital cameras,
it's the only connection that brand new, out of the box, seems defective, if you even breathe on the connection, you lose signal
and it breaks for everyone, almost all of the time. It's really, really sad that they wouldn't relent and make the body just a few mm
larger to accomodate an HDMI Type A or Mini BNC connector.

No waveform monitor is also a major hassle, that means I always have to use an external monitor to accurately set skin tones and
overall exposure utilizing, you know, IRE levels? Whoever thought a histogram was in the least bit useful in professional video?!?

I see in Fuji a company that makes good products and they are making solid cameras. But as still shooters die off as a valid
market for them, they HAVE to pay more attention to what video shooters want and need. And not just hobbyists and Vloggers who
use these things for their YouTube videos, (they got their IBIS and flippy screen - done) they have to listen to pros who are actually
using these tools on some fairly high end work as B/gimbal/slider/crash cam/plant cams. They are there as far as color science/detail and
overall quality and product use experience. All they have to do is LISTEN more carefully and give us the IMPORTANT things. IBIS and flippy screens
are not important, they are nice, fun things for VLoggers. Waveform monitors, robust full size HDMI or Mini BNC monitor/recorder connectors,
metal headphone jacks, no recording limits, these are the things that matter.

Eliminating the focus twitch, focus delay, exposure compensation on their zooms is the other goal they should have, but I don't know if those are
lens or body or lens/body issues. As it stands, I've almost sold my X-T3 and XF lenses twice because of these terrible lens/focus/flickering issues
but I look at the alternatives and all of them are worse for different reasons so at this point, I'm a bit stuck for a gimbal camera. I'm leaning toward
just selling off the XF lenses and buy some manual focus low end cine lenses but those will be such a PITA for gimbal shooting.

I hope that they get there eventually.

Companies create products for potential profitability. Not for the 10 forum nerds who need a headphone jack or full-sized HDMI (etc).

In a PHOTOGRAPHY camera that shoots video, IBIS and a flip-out screen are more appealing to people (hundreds of thousands) than any of those other things on that list combined.

I'm all for complaining and letting it all out on cameras I don't think are worth their price, but it's $1700 and sometimes a reality check is due.

They took away one thing (not really though) and added like 10 new things.

Since the announcement was made at night/overnight (in the USA), this is blazing fast (if true), maybe a record.

[I follow many releases and some cameras - inexpensive or expensive - never receive these badges.]

Thats one way to look at it. But the other thing is, I have had meetings with Fuji Territory reps and the Japanese engineers that were in from Japan
so I know what their marketing goals seem to be. They are just halfway on the fence about how much they are devoting to the video features. If it
was Sony or Panasonic, they would do what Panasonic did with the S1H versus the S1 or the GH5S versus the GH5, they make a more videocentric
variant. But Fuji is much smaller than Panasonic or Sony, they have a LOT fewer resources for R&D and design so they have been going for the low
hanging fruit, which in this case are Vloggers and that's fine.

But I think their continued catering toward the videocentric audience with the X-T2 (dabbled in video), X-H1 (went for it but omitted some crucial features and specs),
X-T3 (sales home run, I believe the single most successful digital camera they've ever made, largely due to the video buyer influence leaking over to still shooters who
want to start dablling around with video) proves that they are listening, they do care about the more pro/video nerd features.

In the X-T4, they finally put in a REC709 LUT emulation for the internal screen when shooting FLog, how much more video nerdy can you get? The average still shooter and many Vloggers don't even know what that sentence means.
The writing is on the wall, they are becoming progressively more serious about video and video buyers, it's just a matter of how responsively they will refine the designs for the X-H2 and X-T5, both of which we
know are coming. The implementation of the new features in the X-T4 are proof that they are listening and I think objectively, with the X-T4, they are about 80% of the way toward the perfect mirrorless hybrid.
We just need to continually steer them toward prioritization to get the next ones over the finish line.

I'm on four different Fuji Groups on Facebook and run one of them so I get a pretty good cross section of what the priorities among users are and IBIS was without a doubt the number one most requested feature, followed by a flippy screen. What I am seeing after the annoucement of the X-T4 is whinging abou the lack of internal 4:2:2 recording, full sized HDMI,
reinstatement of the on-board 3.5mm headphone jack, no record limits and no or fewer crop sensor modes. That's why I say they are about 80% of the way there. For me, personally, AF as good as the FX9 and latest A7s would be amazing, I was so impressed on some two camera shoots I did
last week with the FX9 and an A7 SII, the AF for shallow DOF 4K shooting was impressive, in a whole other league from my X-T3 and even my C200/300 MKII.

Did you ever ask about HDMI in those meetings?

a7SII has terrible AF...you used that model?
