Fujifilm X-H1 coming?

This camera produces very nice images. Too bad it is lacking the features like unlimited recording, 4k60p, 10bit and proper audio. It is tough to compete with the GH5/s specs.

I attended the unveiling of the X-H1 in New Delhi today. Hope to do a review today.

NO 25p in DCI 4k.
if you don't use the Grip then the DCI 4k and UHD are limited to 15mins shooting. With the grip it is 30mins. Also without grip, FHD can only be shot for 20mins
I loved the colours coming out. Reminded me of my slide film days of shooting Velvia.
It was tough to judge the low light performance in the demo space though they had several cameras set up with still as well as with Fujinon lens.
IBIS will be a big help, however, I need to test it properly in low light.

I liked the feel of the camera. Good for discrete shooting (ofcourse with 15mins limit without grip). My C300 as well as 1DX II looks too big for some of my documentary subjects. The 80D doesn't have 4k, so I was checking this camera. Some of my thoughts based on the brief first impression. https://www.indiawilds.com/diary/fujifilm-launches-x-h1-mirrorless-camera/

Nice write up Sabyasachi. That does seem like a strange oversight, no 25p?!? Many more countries around the world use 25/50p than 30/60, why would Fujifilm not include that?

DCI 4K 25p doesn't exist in many non cinema cameras.

It's of course available in UHD in the X-H1.

Regarding the shooting time limit. You hit the limit and then what happens? How long do you have to wait to get a full x minutes again?

It takes a second or two to "store" the clip (maybe more with a longer take) and then you can start again, but not sure if any overheating issues exist.

This is also another consideration (via Cinema5D):

"Long 4K video recordings are split into 2:40 minutes segments (FAT32 4GB limitation)"

The Fuji rep at the demo last night said the XH-1 has a lot more heat sinks in it than the XT-2, but he didn't have the camera for long before coming up to Seattle for the demo, so hasn't had a chance to put it through its paces yet.

And the extra grip has a headphone jack and an option for external power, which would allow at least nearly continuous recording.

The long recordings part might be a bit of a drag, but I think NLEs are getting smarter about it. I know that Scratch has a sequence option that you can use when importing clips, that will assemble segmented clips into a single clip, for example.

Personally, my thoughts, after years and years of DSLR and mirrorless shooting, if you need long recordings, this is the wrong type of camera, not really what you should be using. You'd be MUCH better off with a video camera. It's sort of the whole ergonomics and workflow thing, mirrorless and DSLRs are not great for that sort of shooting in general. Think about it, small body, high frame rates and resolution = heat. Heat generation adds noise to circuitry and sensors and often will cause the camera to shut down (hello Sony A7 variants). Wrong tool for the job IMHO. You can do it, but you're then using a square peg in a round hole. With amazing quality cameras costing just a few thousand dollars now, there's no rule that says you can't have a mirrorless for shooting short form and a video camera for long form event/weddings/depositions/etc. Utilizing the right tool for a given job will make your life easier.

That's quite true. Modern cameras are generally quite amazing these days. I still don't like the stills form factor for motion picture capture, it's not very ergonomic for that. I do like that Fuji's lenses have aperture rings and are very manual focus friendly, and even have pretty minimal breathing from what I could tell based on my first impressions.

Is it me or does this Fuji X-h1 have some very filmic qualities? the motion blur is probably the best I've seen out of any dSLR, as well as skin tone. I'm attributing it to the true 48 shutter speed.

Just got my fuji x-h1. The aliasing seems to be quite bad. Is anyone else having this issue. Also the slow-motion is terrible. The image looks very mushy in 120p

Got an example you can upload? This is the exact thing I was afraid of and why I have said that I won't buy it until I rent it first. There are a few people on the Fujix forums that seem to be happy with the video performance, but I don't have first hand knowledge.

Most cameras on the planet (not all) do not produce good-looking 120p especially if your (a person's) expectations result from filming 4K at lower framerates or just in general are getting used to watching higher-resolution images. Whether it's the hardware or the processing or the amount of data/information that is being allocated to the output (etc), it's simply not as good.

I once owned a Raven and could clearly see a difference (and this @4K for both) between 24p via 3:1 compression and 120p via 18:1.

I sometimes think about the generations ahead of us and how they casually will be able to film in 8K/240p like it's nothing, ha.
