Fujifilm X-H1 coming?

So it has 4:2:2 8 bit output via HDMI. The eterna film simulation has a quoted 12 stop dynamic range. Not really sure what that extends to with the flog (internal or external) but you would have to think it would be more than that? Perhaps not. I saw a brief glimpse of the autofocus and it seems to have an option like with the canons where if it selects your face and you turn away it doesnt automatically focus on the background, holding its position (need to verify, though). YOu can see the green box light up on the person's face but I gotta say it did look a bit laggy so pure you'll need to test that out for us. The lowlight capabilities seem to be quite good, and the ibis handheld without an image stabalized lens (?) looks very good - better than the a6500 and perfectly useable.

You can tell fuji are inexperienced at launching a video product because they have given it to anyone and everyone and some of the footage is downright bad so I will reserve my judgment, but so far from what I have seen it doesn't look like the best image.

The 24.3 MP Fuji X-H1 mirrorless camera has been announced.

Price as per B&H: $1895 USD.

DCI 4K at 23.98 24 fps. NO 25fps for PAL.
UHD : upto 30 fps
It says a boosted data rate of 200Mb/s
ISO: 200-12800 extended upto 51200.
Will see how it is in the demo next week

Of course got to release the BTS to their marketing video, showing the Fujfilm X-H1 rigged up to the max (ohhhh.... I spot a Roland R88! A moment of silence for his back please):

I'm still planning to rent before I she'll out the money for this. Looks like they ignored the 15LWS standard, they had it rigged to 19mm or maybe 15 Studio with a 15LWS adapter for lens bridge and maybe mattebox.

Still only 30 minute recording time with the battery grip.

Shame.

ETA And Flog in 8bit only mode will be a real treat to grade.

I think this video helps promote this camera a lot more than some of the others I first saw posted.

Certainly impressive.
Great from an $1900 camera.
A bit of aliasing on the slomo footage here and there. The titles say 4K but nope.
I’d love to know if this was shot on eterna or flog.

I wonder if I can convince the Fuji guys to let me review one. :)

You have writing credits and Red Shark is known.

Contact: Christine Appelbergh, Manager, Marketing Communications
Corporate Communications at Fuji NY to ask her.

I've got the GH5S currently and am in line to get a hold of the Alexa LF and Sony Venice, not sure if I need another camera to review but I am leaving right now for the press event in LA to get some hands on-time and hear their presentation on the X-H1. And of course, drinks and food and schmoozing with others in the business.

I'm going to a Fujifilm event next Wednesday to do some schmoozing also... but the only big film-oriented company who does things like that around here (Seattle area) on a regular basis is Red. It's nice that Red puts them on, but it would nice to meet some of the other industry folks also.

But for that I'll have to wait for conferences and such, and schmooze with them at press events there. I'm hoping I can get a reviewer license for the new Mistika stuff... :)

If you're going to NAB we ought to meet up for a beer or something :)

I e-mailed Christine. Thanks for that info!

I agree, and it isn't like they don't have examples of what is really required. This is probably going to be a camera that needs to be shot in a film simulation mode, and needs to have exposure hit as close as possible to be correct.

Maybe they will go the way of Panasonic and have an optional paid upgrade to 10 bit and longer recording times. This would be un-Fuji of them, but possible.

Had some hands-on time with the X-H1 at the roll out in LA last night and spoke with the Fuji engineers. Love Fuji color science, 5-Axis IBIS worked really nicely, but the camera is beefier than the X-T2 and heavier, not necessarily a bad thing for video shooters. Yes, all 8-bit recording, the HDMI out (Mini HDMI, ughh) is even 8-bit too. They claim heat and processor limitations, it's the same processor that is in the X-T2, but tweaked. Nice camera overall, the new Eterna film stock emulation looks more cine like than all of the Velvia/Provia modes. Engineers claimed 12 stops DR in all modes, I am skeptical but would be cool if it was true. Also does DCI as well as UHD but DCI only at 24 fps. No 4K 50/60p is disappointing. They did also add some good tweaks to the focusing features for video shooters.

Fujinon seems cautious and methodical as far as why doesn't it have this and that feature. They are working toward a real digital cinema camera, the X-H1 is a tentative step toward it. Also, keep in mind, this camera costs considerably less than the GH5S, the other mirrorless video-centric camera new to the market. Personally I think they should have made it $2,500.00 and gone head to head with the GH5S as far as specs. If they did, this would be a better camera overall.
