Fuji X-T3 released

It looks good (the transition appears slow too), but real humans are necessary. The camera could see the photograph as an object. People and their movement and eyes blinking tends to freak AF systems out besides the best ones, so that's really the ideal test. (Not asking you to do it, just saying.)

When I've got people around I'll give it a try. Face tracking was highlighting the faces on the postcard w/ a green square so it wasn't just seeing an object. Do you know if there is an ideal face detection focus speed to use? I slowed it down on the second test as I didn't like the snap-focus look on the first.

The green square always appeared on faces since they enabled that 1-2 years ago. That part always worked well, but the actual AF face-tracking didn't, lol.

Usually people cycle through the settings to see any difference but we'd appreciate any setting/speed, really.

Focus speed could also depend on whether you're tracking stationary (interviews) or moving subjects (from walking to running). As to pulsing, you'd want to create a gap between subjects - say, someone sitting 3-5 feet away from the wall and whatever may be on the wall itself, especially if both are slightly off-center.

If you watch the video, he says it was the 35mm f/1.4 around 40 seconds.

The description is most likely a copy/paste typo as the link also points to the Fujifilm 35mm.

Also, EVERYONE uses face-detection with good AF cameras. AF-C stands for continuous AF, and face-tracking is just a setting. But no pros are going to use anything else for a simple test like above if you're looking to track a face.

You gotta brush up on your auto-focus, haha.

The C200 has terrible face-detection, but Sony's new cameras and some of the Canon DSLRs are practically flawless. The newer cameras are smart enough to stop looking for a face (or pause) when it leaves the frame or if the person turns around.

Since the face detect on the C200 sucks, I assumed the same about the X-T3, I tried it a few times and it sort of works, but often lost the eyes or face. Watched the video with the sound off in a waiting room at the vet so I looked at the description.
If that's the Fujinon XF35mm f/1.4 lens, that's even more disappointing.

It wasn't good on the Fujifilm either, but that's what people are hoping this firmware improves. Object tracking and a center box is useful here and there, but a lot of people are filming other people, and being able to keep eyes and faces in focus while shooing shallow is the entire purpose behind the desire for good AF. On gimbals, people moving around, etc.

Other than that, you don't really need AF.

As much as I love it and support it and use it, I actually turn it off for static shots (or press the AF button to focus once) so there's no possibility of any confusion at all.

I updated the firmware and don't have any bugs to report yet. My first impressions with the 56mm f1.2, 90mm f2, 16mm f1.4, and 16-55mm f2.8 is that the constant focus hunting is somewhere between greatly reduced to entirely gone. So that's a win. In terms of overall AF accuracy, acquisition, tracking, face/eye detection detection, etc. the improvements appear to be relatively minor to none at all. Again these are my first impressions not a/b tests so there may be some improvements or decreases I may not have noticed. It's still not quite as good Canon and Sony. That being said short of an S1H or a camera that can shoot or output raw, I prefer the image out of the X-T3 to any other DSLR or MILC hybrid that's out right now.

It appears (online) that the FW update just slowed down the confusion, but once you start moving around with face-tracking on, there's no improvement.

Now that the X-T4 was officially acknowledged by Fujifilm, there will be a lot of hopes and dreams regarding AF for that one.

Does anyone know how to Jamsync le TC on the X-T3 ?
I see options for Free Run, etc. But nothing in the manual talks about this.

I have Tentacles, but I don't want to run TC on an audio track of the camera, I want to jamsync the internal TC clock.
Also, if it is possible do I run it through the mic jack ?

FWIW, I loaded up the 3.20 FW into our X-T3 and messed around with it for an hour. I daresay the focus twitch is gone. We are back to at least usable, if not as good as Canon and Sony AF with the X-T3. Thank you Fuji! It took far too long
but I am glad that you finally fixed it. Still haven't used it on gimbal on a real shoot with talent, maybe next week but just messing around with it, seems to work pretty well again.

If you own an X-T3, update to the 3.20 FW without fear, the focus twitching is gone.

Can someone refresh my memory with the Rec601/HDMI data levles issue outputting to a Ninja V ?
Was that ever corrected in the new firmware ? Where are things with that today ?
What was the workaround ?

I definitely see the additional contrast on my Ninja V in Flog. But I am still running old X-T3 firmware (never updated to avoid the twitch focusing issues).
If I remember correctly, the extra contrast is on the monitoring, so the scopes/tools are not trustworthy, however the actual footage itself has the correct levels ?
