Fuji X-T3 released

I hate to do this to you guys, but feel I must... Fuji has some rebates going as of 2 days ago, and the cinema zooms are both $1000 off regular price. Please click the link in the post o help keep the Fujix forums funded, Robert gets something back as an affiliate.

Sorry, probably USA only, but ceck in your country because sometimes these are global.

Why I feel bad is that some of you are going to be spending a bunch of money on stuff you were drooling over, but put off as not "needed".

If I had a payout on my car crash, I might be spending a bunch of it on a couple items (T3 and 90mm being the most prominent).

I bought my MK Zooms from District Camera and had them shipped to NYC. Thus I avoided the state sales tax, but they also were able to do an additional 4-6% off after the $1000 rebates as well.

Mainly price and AF. I've also always liked the way S-Log3 looks...they lowered the ISO to 500, which is cool. Small package. Fantastic programability.

I also saw a test on YouTube that showed the a7III overheating after like 3 hours before this one (no 30 minute limit anymore), so it seems like they've done some work in this small body. (The same batteries now do last twice as long.)

The a6300 was one of my favorite cameras back in 2016, and I originally was certain I was going to purchase a Z6 after the RP didn't work out, but at the end of the day I just couldn't force myself to dive into that system and spend the money. The X-T3 was next by default, especially after the AF firmware announcement...but ultimately decided to go with the Sony.

I also like cheaper cameras because I feel like I can treat myself to one really nice lens: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1435887-REG/sony_fe_24mm_f_1_4_gm.html?sts=pi

But if I buy a $2K-$3K camera, I always feel like I'm cutting on the glass because I just can't stomach it. (The 23mm f/1.4 was going to be my Fujifilm choice.)

(And please believe I wasn't always this cheap, haha...just been burned by way too many underperforming cameras in my life and wasted too much money.)

There are also some video demos from the Fujifilm Summit on YouTube that show it functioning. I'm pretty excited for this firmware update.

Not that I want to put it to the test, but how long does the OEM battery go when it hits red (one bar). Does it shut down safely?

Can you easily "lock" (Canon term) or turn off AF so it doesn't send the focus flying when someone steps out of the frame?

any idea how long the fuji promos will last?

thanks in advance.

Fuji have been running sales almost continuously since the last Black Friday sales (in Oct or Nov?) last year. I wouldn't have thought they'd last all that much longer.

It depends on what you're doing (and mainly what display mode you have going), but even with the LCD up at max power there's a few minutes.

I've drained them to the point of auto shutoff several times and have never had anything lost/ corrupted. You can turn the camera back on again after it has auto-powered off (but then it'll shut off again in 10s).

I think this current round of Fuji instant rebates lasts until EOM, Rob.

Our X-T3, earning its keep on a recent shoot for one of our documentaries about the youngest craft distiller in America.
Very nice footage from it, cuts well with the C200, although it takes some tweaking. Shooting F-Log mostly these days.

Yeah, I went about 3 or 4 mins on red but the take ended and I shut it down. I'm always tempted to push it and see what happens like when Kramer and the car salesman drive on empty on Seinfeld, but I'm skittish about losing footage...

As much as I love this camera, for the life of me why does the 120p have to suffer in quality as
bad as it does. Can someone explain why the 120 looses all texture? I mean I see this on most sup 10k cameras, but it seems like fuji is really taking a massive hit. It is almost unusable when blending it in with 24 and 60p footage. Really looks out of place. I wish there was a firmware upgrade for this.

Yeah it's a bit soft- a little grain + Sharpen (PP CC: Sharpen effect) can really help footage like that (from an experienced Canon shooter haha).

Have you actually used an X-T3 and shot 120p? It's the best quality 120p to date:

Quality is near identical to regular speed 1080p, at an expense of a 1.29x crop.

As the sensor is a stills oriented 26MP one, high speed moving picture readout is achieved by horizontal weighted pixel-binning and vertical line-skipping, this is miles ahead of the previous brute force line-skipping and is all done on-chip at hardware level.

FWIW, the 120p on my C200 is worse and it cost 5X as much. 120p isn't a big factor for me, I haven't even tried it yet as the need for 4K outweighs it for most of our needs. Slow motion is so overused and overflogged, I just find it boring for everything but subjects where it shows you something that you never would have seen at normal speed, like some sports or dramatic action. But so many people just use slow motion inccessantly, I think its lost most of its former impact from when slow motion cameras were rare.

Bet you didn’t think you’d be saying that so quickly... ; )
