I had an opportunity to test FS700 with new 3.0 firmware which enables S-LOG2 and 4k raw recording with additional HXR-IF5 interface unit and AXS-R5 recorder which I also had. Here are the tests I did.
High ISO noise test with various gammas (S-LOG2, CINE4, CINE2) with downloadable ProRes file.
FS700 firmware 3.0 ISO test
S-LOG2 was tested from ISO 2000 to ISO 25600, CINE4 tests go from ISO 640 to ISO 16000 and CINE2 from ISO 320 to ISO 8000. I shoot mostly CINE4 gamma and I didn’t want to go higher that ISO 1250 before. Looking at this footage I might go to ISO 5000 (S-LOG2), ISO 2500 (CINE4) and ISO 2000 (CINE2) without using any noise reduction software. This tests are completely unscientific and are based on my observations by eye and not using any instruments.
A test comparing S-LOG2 and CINE4 shooting on two cameras simultaneously (with ungraded S-LOG2 and CINE4 files).
S-LOG2 vs. CINE4
I used completely the same exposure settings on both cameras. Both had ISO set to the lowest setting possible depending on the gamma selected. S-LOG2 had ISO 2000 and CINE4 had ISO 640. That is why I am sceptical about the high ISO value at S-LOG2 gamma as both had quite the same highlight levels except black were substantially higher with S-LOG2. So you cant say that you get additional 1 2/3 stops when shooting S-LOG2 as you need it to expose the footage properly.
I also did a shoot completely in raw shooting super speed 4k and continuous 2k on R5 recorder and AXSM 512 GB card (downloadable 4k and 2k dlx frames, and two 2k raw clips).
Raw FS700
Workflow, file sizes and working with the HXR-IF5 interface unit and AXS-R5 recorder. The footage is not yet edited but you can see a few files and downloads footage for your own inspection.
